Review: Clarisonic Mia Sonic Skin Cleansing

I read tons of reviews and saw a whole heap on youtube prior to purchasing my first Clarisonic Mia. I was so lucky and blessed to be taken to Disneyland (for the first time) in LA for my 21st birthday last year (December, although my birthday was in August...). Obviously I HAD to shop at Sephora whilst I was in the states, which was where I made my purchase (and a lot more other cosmetics). It was USD$119 plus tax (can't remember how much tax it was, as tax varies depending on the county).

So I have been using the clarisonic mia for the past 4-5 months, and I LOVE it. I purchased the blue one only because it was the only one that included two brush heads. The reason why I think the other ones were newer models was because they only had the sensitive brush heads, and I can't find any clarisonic mias that come with two brush heads now.

I live with my parents for half of the week and with my boyfriend for the other half of the week, and having to remember to take this back and forth is quite a chore, so I decided to get another one from eBay. I'm 99.9% sure it's genuine, even though the boxes are different and the seller only had 1 feedback (which was positive). I googled image "Clarisonic Mia packaging" and both packaging came up, so that's always a plus right? I also compared both mias and they were identical, except for the serial code on the bottom of the mia and the colour.

In the blue clarisonic box, these items were included:
  • Clarisonic Mia (blue) with one speed
  • Universal Voltage pLink Charger
  • Deep pore cleansing brush head
  • Sensitive brush head
  • Trial size cleanser
Everything was included in the pink clarisonic box except the deep pore cleansing brush head.

When I started using the mia, I went straight for the deep pore cleansing brush head, as I do not have sensitive skin, and I really wanted to get all the black heads out. The only skin irritation I had was red patches around my cheeks. It was really quite minor as it went away after an hour or two and my skin was not raw or sensitive to the touch. I think it was due to me exerting too much pressure.

I used to think using a makeup remover wipe was enough to remove all traces of foundation, but I was oh-so-wrong. After using the Clarisonic Mia, the brush went a orangey from my makeup. So it's quite important to wash the brush thoroughly for the next use.

I also used the trial size cleanser (the tube in the pink clarisonic picture) that came with my blue clarisonic mia. On the tube it says
"All/Sensitive Skin Gentle Hydro Cleanser
Remove impurities while soothing and comforting
Aloe, Cucumber, Japanese Green Tea"

To be honest, I don't think highly of it. It's an ok product that didn't make me want to re-purchase. The Sephora sales assistant told me that you can use any cleanser except grainy ones (i.e. exfoliants), as it can tear the skin and damage the machine. So after I finished my tube, I used my Dermalogica dermal clay cleanser with my mia, and have been using it ever since. I think they work well together for my skin.

After 3-4 months of using the deep pore cleansing brush head once a day, I threw it out and used a delicate brush head that I purchased from eBay (it was a bulk-buy and I bought 4 of them!). The difference in 'harshness' was quite noticeable at first. I actually preferred the deep pore cleansing brush, as I felt like it did a better job in getting all the gunk out from my pores. However, after using the delicate brush head for a month, I like it too. It also does a good job in removing all traces of makeup that my makeup remover wipes couldn't. The result is smoother skin and smaller pores.

Overall, I highly recommend the Clarisonic Mia, as it has become a product I cannot live without.

BellaBox - April 2012

I was lucky enough to win a BellaBox from aboutabugg (Renee). I thought it was going to be the Mother's Day special edition one, as that is the sample box Renee received from BellaBox, but I received the April's Edition one instead. I am grateful for the chance to sample BellaBox, and I'm quite tempted to subscribe especially since I Love This Box is no more :(

Anyway, the items that I received in my BellaBox are:
  • Comvita Olive White Brightening Protective Moisturizer with SPF15
  • Comvita Olive White Brightening Facial Exfoliant
  • Comvita Olive White Brightening Facial Serum
  • Ulta3 Nail Polish in Shiraz (Full size)
  • Glamourflage Sexy Sadie Body Scrub
  • Pure DKNY Verbena
  • Benefit 'Hello Flawless' Foundation in I'm so money honey
  • Hollywood Feet Gel Cushions (Full size)

Comvita Olive White Brightening Range (1.5ml each)
The information card provided said that the 'Comvita Brightening Range contains tones of anti-oxidants to replenish skin cells'. Sounds promising, as I do have slightly uneven skin tones. I haven't tried this yet but the only thing I'm a bit apprehensive about is the word "Olive" in it. I'm not a big fan of olive smelling things so I hope the scent doesn't throw me off the product. The RRP of the Facial Exfoliant, Facial Serum and Moisturiser are 75ml $45, 30ml $79, and 50ml $55 respectively.

Ulta3 Nail Polish in Shiraz (13ml)
To be honest, before I tried this polish I didn't really think much of it due to its RRP of $2. However, I was pleasantly surprised as it went on quite well and tried quickly. I can't say anything about the staying power as I just swatched it on my pinky over my gelish nail (2 coats). I'm not sure if I'll repurchase it in other colours only because I've got so many nail polishes and only use them on my toes, as I use gelish on my fingernails.

Glamourflage Sexy Sadie Body Scrub (30ml)
I don't normally use body scrubs, as I never felt the need to exfoliate any part of my body except my face. I'm hoping this will be face-friendly. I like that it comes with a flip up top, instead of a screw top like many sample tubes I have come across. The smell is also quite pleasant, so I will give this a go some day soon. RRP for 250ml is $27.95

Pure DKNY Verbena (1.5ml)
I love that this comes in a spray bottle. It smelt pleasant for the few minutes that I had it on before I had a shower. It's a perfume that I would use judging from the few minutes that it was on my skin. According to the information card, 'DKNY's Lemon Verbena contains refreshing and citrusy aromas to complement a fresh, fashion forward style', which basically sums up what it smells like. (I'm not the best at describing smells) RRP is $80 for 30mls.

Benefit 'Hello Flawless' Foundation in I'm So Money Honey (5.0ml)
This is the product I was most excited about. I read some of the BellaBox April reviews and quite a lot of people either did not have this in their boxes or had the wrong shade. I was so glad and pleased that I got a shade that matched! As I only put a tiny amount on my face after removing my makeup to see if the shade matched my skin tone, and then removed it 5 minutes later, I'm unsure about the wear of it or if it makes my skin super oily at the end of the day. So stay tuned for a review! RRP is $55 for 30mls.

Hollywood Feet Gel Cushions (2 pairs)
There have been numerous times that I've chosen flats over heels because I'm such a wimp and can't stand painful feet. I'm glad I am given a chance to try this out, as I don't think I'd ever buy this because it's just easier to wear flats. I don't know about the re-usability of this, wouldn't it just get "un-sticky" after removing it and placing it in another shoe a few times? RRP is $9.95 for two pairs.

I would like to thank Renee from aboutabugg and BellaBox again for hosting and supplying the giveaway, and I'm so grateful to be given the chance to try out Bellabox for the first time. I think I will be subscribing as soon as I get my refund from ILoveThisBox for May's box.

Lust Have It - May 2012

First impression of Lust Have It's May bag/box is WOW! I love the colour of this month's bag and I was so impressed and excited when I opened the bag and saw the goodies inside.

The items I received in my bag were:
  • ModelCo Lipstick in Sunset (full size)
  • Evo The Therapist Calming Shampoo
  • Evo The Therapist Calming Conditioner
  • Bioderma Crealine H2O Makeup Remover
  • Calvin Klein Sheer Beauty Perfume
  • Lush - dirty soap (I think it's full size)
  • Caron Laboratories Bump Eraiser Medi Paste (full size)
  • Nicole by OPI
  • Information card
  • A small mother's day card

ModelCo Lipstick in Sunset
I'm not quite sure how much this costs,as on the information card, it says the average costs of the lipstick and lipgloss is $22. I love the packaging of this lipstick, in particular the mirror one of the sides of the lipstick body. I thought that was really neat and handy. However, the shade "Sunset" that was given is too dark for my complexion, and I don't feel comfortable wearing it, so I will probably give this to my mum or sister.

Evo The Therapist Calming Shampoo and Conditioner The size that I received is 50ml for each. The RRP of both the shampoo and conditioner is $29.95 for 300ml. I am actually quite excited to use this as according to the information card, it's formulated to cleanse, hydrate and smoothen damaged, dry or frizzy hair, and my hair is all of the above from all the bleaching and dying.

Bioderma Crealine H2O Makeup Remover The size of this product is 20ml (RRP: $39.95 for 250ml) making it perfect for traveling. Therefore, I think that I will save it for the next time I go for an adventure. In regards to the price, I think it is quite steep for how much you get, but maybe this product will blow me away and worth the money.

Calvin Klein Sheer Beauty Perfume The size of this vial is 1.2ml (RRP: $80 for 50ml). I love how this vial is a spray, making it so much easier to use than those stupid ones without the spray head. Although it smells pleasant, it does not make me want to run to the shops to get one. To me it smells quite generic, like a typical CK perfume.
Lush - dirty soap As mentioned above, I think this product is a full sized. RRP for 100g is $6.95. I don't like the smell of this soap, it's pepperminty and it's a bar soap. I tend to prefer floral or fruity scents of my soaps in the form of liquid. So I might give this to my partner, who loves minty things, although he doesn't like bar soaps either, so he might end up putting this in his clothing drawer or something.

Caron Laboratories Bump eRaiser Medi Paste This is another full sized product (30ml) that was given (RRP: $16.75). I'm looking forward to trialling this out, as I have a few bumps I have acquired through shaving that I'm keen to get rid off.

Nicole by OPI I love nail polishes and although the size received is a small 3.75ml, I think the colour I got is really pretty and the bottle is so tiny and cute. The RRP of this nail polish is $14.95 for 15ml, which I think is reasonable for OPI. The colour is a sparkley, glittery purple and I love it. I'm not sure what the name of this polish is though.

Overall, I'm impressed both at the products and customer service of Lust Have It, and am currently considering taking up on their yearly subscription.
