I have a dilemma...

I have a dilemma. To go to Maldives or to the US? It may be quite a simple decision for you to make, but both destinations have its pros and cons.

The plan was to jet off to Maldives from Singapore, as I will be there for my granddad's 90th birthday in May. However, being high maintenance, I really want a beach or water villa. I want to be able to walk out and see the water or the beach, and not have to walk like 123792169312km (obvious exaggeration... but you get what I mean) to get to the beach. If not, I don't really benefit from going to the Maldives as I live across the road from a golf course, which surrounds a beach and can see the sea from outside my house. The cheapest beach or water villas are about $700 a night (inclusive of taxes and whatever crazy fees), and because of the high rates, I'm thinking two nights will suffice. I was set for this plan until my dad came along and said that he has a week's worth of timeshare that we can use. Unfortunately, the timeshare company does not have a place in Maldives, or I'll be all up for it.

However, the timeshare company has accommodation in the US. But it'll cost a fortune if I wanted to fly from Singapore to the states compared to if I flew from Sydney to the States. The pros of going to the states would be being able to shop at Sephora (but then again, I can always get a freight forwarder). The cons would be me spending more money that I don't have, and the flights... and the possibility of having to hire a car.

I thought about going to Hawaii, but the bf isn't too keen (plus flights will still be expensive). He said he has heard it "isn't too crash hot", and then he reminded me that I've always wanted to visit Maldives... But I love Sephora, and Forever 21, and Victoria Secret, and Abercrombie & Fitch, and Walmart... and I'll be extremely broke if I do ever set foot on US soil.

So, what do you reckon I should do?!

EDIT: Just thought of another pro for US... My dream (apart from going to Maldives) is also to visit ALL the Disneylands in the world. I haven't been to the one in Florida yet...

  1. My vote is for the Maldives, although I don't know if I could only spend 2 nights there :-/ I'd sacrifice and go with cheaper accommodation... The US is always nice too of course. But I'm a beach bum :P

    1. Well, my bf and I aren't swimmy people. So going all out (in a tight arse kind of way) on luxurious accommodation is ideal for us, and I'm sure we'll be bored if we stayed a week.

    1. Spent a few hours searching, and the cheapest accommodation that is ideal is about $1400 for two nights :(

  4. I would go with the maldives and see your grandad for his 90th. Shops come and go but family (especially your grandparents!!) don't.

    1. Not compromising on going to see my granddad for his 90th, I'm just not sure which destination to visit.

    2. Oh I didn't read your post properly. I would still go with Maldives as it looks beautiful and probably kinder to your wallet :) (after the accomodation stuff)

    3. I think they're both equally bad to my wallet... One's got cheap flights + accommodation but a crap load of shops, and the other's got semi-cheap flights (I think it'll cost about the same for flights actually) + no distracting shops but extremely expensive accommodation.

BUT! It looks like I'll be going to Maldives :)
