Review: Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture

I find it quite hard to find moisturizers that work for me because my skin has a mind of its own. Sometimes it's normal and I don't end up having an oil-slicked face at the end of the day, but sometimes it chucks a hissy fit and I end up having enough oil to fry an egg on my face.

I've been given the opportunity to try out the Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture for Combination skin, which is perfect for my skin needs!

I think it is so important to make sure you moisturize your skin with the right type of moisturizer after cleansing, as you need to put back the correct amount of moisture so that your skin will stay soft and nourished.

Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture claims to "moisturise dry areas and controls shine in oily areas". Unfortunately, I can't really say that this moisturizer has lived up to its claims. It has moisturized my skin rather well, but it didn't always control shine in oily areas. There are days when it has worked well (I guess when my skin was feeling a tat more normal), and days when it kind of sucked and made me feel like my nose was as shiny as a mirror.

However, there are a few properties of this moisturizer that I like. Firstly, it's packaging! I love how you can turn the head to stop any product from coming out when pressed. This makes it so ideal for travelling!

There's an inscribed indicator thingy on the head, showing you which way to turn to "open". I circled it with black for easy spotting. I think bottles such as this is the best packaging for moisturisers and lotions, as it is the most hygienic AND if you are a klutz like me, you don't have to worry about the bottle breaking into pieces when you accidentally drop it.

The second thing that I like is the texture. It feels really moisturizing and it doesn't take long for my skin to fully absorb the moisturizer. It is a white and creamy moisturizer, and looks like this...

I know this picture looks wrong... but I thought you might like to know what it looks like :P
I also love how it dispenses enough product for one application!

The third thing I like about this moisturizer is that it does not have an offensive smell. I can barely smell anything. Although, I do like moisturizers to have a nice pleasant smell, I'd rather it have no smell than a very strong unpleasant one (if that makes any sense).

Lastly, I love that this is moisturizer is non-comedogenic (i.e. it does not block pores). This means that the likelihood of this breaking you out is slim! I have been using this for two weeks now, and I have not broken out!

If you don't have combination skin, fear not! There are two other moisturizers in this range. One for sensitive skin, and another with SPF15.

So the big question is... would I repurchase? I'm still on the fence with this moisturizer only because it hasn't really lived up to its claims of "controlling shine in oily areas". But I guess the combination of my crazy skin and the humid, summer weather is too powerful for this moisturizer to keep shine at bay. I think it'll probably be a better moisturizer for the colder, wintery weather.

This product was kindly provided for my consideration. All opinions expressed are my own.

  1. I've got combo= skin as well! It's a bit annoying that I can't find the perfect moisturiser... It looks like it's worth a try though!

  3. Bahaha your comment under the picture of the product! :P
This sounds nice although I'm wary about the shininess issue! I have that problem too! Although it can't hurt to try it, since it doesn't block pores!

    1. Shininess is the worst! I cannot wear my makeup dewy for that reason!

  4. I've actually never tried any Neutrogena products before but this does sound promising. Although I have an oily complexion so this might not work out on me, but then again most products that claim to keep oiliness at bay do not live up to their claims! x

    1. I think it'd work better in winter, when the air is not as humid. My skin seems to like to produce more oil when it's humid!

  8. I'm currently using Hada Labo ultimate whitening lotion, and I'm loving it, really moisturize and great oil control, I have combination skin and usually my T zone is very oily. I've never tried any Neutrogena product, but if it has bad oil control then it's not going to be on my list XD

  9. I use the "sensitive skin" version and I love it! It's my fave moisturiser :)
It's light feeling, isn't greasy, doesn't have a smell and didn't break me out.
