NOTD: Butter London No More Waity, Katie and Sea Lore Beluga Blizzard

When I first tried Butter London's No More Waity, Katie, I was so disappointed. It looked so dull... and ugly. I can't believe I just used the word "ugly" to describe a Butter London nail polish, but it's true. I swatched it once, and never used it again. When painted, the nail does NOT look like the bottle. The purple glitter you can see through the bottle does not show through on the nails, and its just bloody poor effort. If I am wearing polish with glitter in it, I want to SEE it on my nails, considering the trouble I'll have to go through to remove the bloody thing. /end rant

When I bought the Sea Lore Beluga Blizzard nail polish 3 months ago, I wasn't entirely sure what to do with it, as it's such a unique shade. It's described as a "Pearl white iridescent shimmering base with various shades of snow white glitter." It wasn't until yesterday that I googled some swatches and found some inspiration from Ashley is Polish Addicted. After digging through my polish collection and swatching for a polish that would best match Beluga Blizzard, I finally settled on No More Waity Katie, and was pleasantly surprised at how well these two polishes go together.

In shade
I applied a coat of Butter London Nail Foundation Flawless Basecoat, followed by three layers of Butter London No More Waity, Katie. I topped it off with a coat of Sea Lore Beluga Blizzard and then two coats of CND Super Shiney High-Gloss Top Coat.

In sunlight
I think it could probably do with another few more layers of topcoat. I'm a tat unhappy with the wear of this manicure, as it's only lasted a day before chipping. I'm not sure if it's the polishes or if it's the CND top coat I'm testing out. I'll probably give CND another go for my next manicure, and will let you guys know if it's the culprit!

Blog Swap with Louise

I was paired up with the lovely Louise of Confessions of A Secret Shopper for a Valentine's blog swap that Jasmine of Sweetaholic Beauty organized.

Louise is from the UK and we set a budget of £20-30 (AUD$30-45), excluding delivery costs before I sent her my usual long list of things that I like or don't like. I like being really informative about these things, as there's nothing worse than wasting someone else's money and time if she/he spends ages trying to pick something out which you'd never use.

Anyway, enough rambling... This is what Louise got me...

I really love that Louise has put in so much effort to get me stuff from UK brands!

Bourjois Paris Delice de Poudre Bronzing Powder in Shade 52

Mmmm chocolate.. bronzing powder! I actually haven't been wearing bronzing powder much, but for some strange reason, I have been digging up my (rather small collection of) bronzing powders over the past few days to use. So this came just in time for the beginning of my bronzing powder phase!

FashionistA Custom Design Blush in London
OMG I love this blush! I started using it today, and it's so pigmented and pretty! This blush has a peachy pink shimmery base with magenta-pink-ish lines through it, and comes up as a peachy pink colour on my cheeks with the tiniest hint of shimmer.

ColorTrend by Avon in Cheeky
Another gorgeous blush! The picture above is not true to colour. It is a much softer peachy-pink shade, and it's definitely a shade of blush I'd use! Thanks Louise!

MUA Nail Constellation in Gemini, Barry M polishes in 293 Grey and 8 Grapefruit
MUA Nail Constellation in Gemini: This Gemini MUA Nail Constellation is so pretty! It has silver, purple and turquoise beads in it and I can't wait to use it!

Barry M 293 Grey: I haven't many grey polishes, so this polish is a very welcomed addition to my nail polish collection.

Barry M 8 Grapefruit: This polish has been on my lustlist ever since I saw it on Ninja Polish a few weeks ago, so I'm so so pleased that Louise had gotten this for me!

Avon Nail Experts Liquid Freeze Quick Dry Nail Spray
I tend to paint my nails at night a few hours before bed, and sometimes my polish doesn't fully dry in time, and I end up with bed sheet marks on my nails when I wake up. This usually happens when I use glitter polishes, because I end up applying like 5 coats of top coat to get a smooth finish. So I'm excited to see if this is the solution to my first world problem!

Rimmel Apocalips in Nude Eclipse, Wink Black Marker Pen for Eyes by Barry M, and 17 Wild Curls in Wildest Black
Rimmel Apocalips in Nude Eclipse: I told Louise that I love nude/pinkish nude lips, and this looks like something I'd definitely wear!

Barry M Wink Black Marker Pen: I'm always on the look out for a good eyeliner, as I use it all the time! Very excited to try this out!

17 Wild Curls in Wildest Black: My eyelashes have been so stubborn lately. All my mascaras that are renowned for holding my curls (from my own past experiences) have sucked lately at doing so. I'm interested to see if this mascara will live up to its claims to hold curls for 10 hours!

I'm so thankful for everything that Louise has picked out for me! I love every single item she got me. I swear she must be psychic or something, as all of these products are so me. Thanks a billion Louise! If you haven't checked out Louise's blog over at Confessions of A Secret Shopper, please do so and send her some love for me!

What the postman brought me this week

1. Lush - $48.50, including shipping
I'm such a sucker for freebies. I only really made this order because Lush had a promotion on - get a free sample bag with any order online. I purchased No Drought Dry Shampoo, Rehab shampoo, and Strawberry Feels Forever Massage Bar. I have used all three since I received this order.

The No Drought Dry Shampoo was really efficient in keeping my oily roots at bay in between washes. However I wasn't a fan of the whole application process, as I had to pour the powder out and somehow attempt to massage it into my hair without getting it all over the place.

I'm not entirely sure about the Rehab shampoo. It says to use it with the Retread Conditioner, which I already have and after using both, my ends were so so so dry, it felt like hay. My ends haven't felt so dry since I bleached the crap out of them (they were chopped off when I went to Singapore in October last year). I will use it again in about a week or so, and see if it happens again.

Strawberry Feels Forever kind of sits on top on my skin for a long time before it gets absorbed (if it even does... I don't know, I went to bed about 30 minutes later, so my sheets might have absorbed it). Does anyone know how to store this? I currently have it wrapped up in the lush wrapping paper.

The samples I received were Herbalism Cleanser, Dream Cream Body Lotion, Ocean Salt Cleanser, and 9 to 5 Cleanser. Have yet to use any.

2. eBay
If you've been following me on instagram, you'd know that I've recently purchased an iPad mini. I refused to buy any accessories from a retail store, as they're ALWAYS a rip off, so I went on eBay to get some protective gear to help preserve my iPad from my rough handling.

Since Apple decided to change the plug thingy, I purchased a lightning converter plug for $3.20, as I've got so many of the old plug connector things. I also purchased a black case, which came with a screen protector and a stylus pen for $8.65.

3. Ozsale - Roxy - $45
I have more bikinis than I know what to do with! At least I'll be more than well prepared for my trip to Maldives in May :)

I also picked up two pairs of shorts during the Ozsale Roxy sale event. I find Roxy sizes really weird. Size 6 (ladies) is a tat too tight, size 8 is perfect. BUT size 12 girls shorts fit me as well as size 8 Ladies. :-s

4. eBay
Purchased a Victoria's Secret push up bra from eBay because I absolutely LOVE VS! VS is one of my favourite lingerie brands! I purchased this for $26.60 including postage, which I thought was a bargain since it's brand new with tags and it retails for about USD$50! Although it may seem a bit tacky, but I also love the cheetah print straps. I don't normally go for these prints on apparels, but for some strange reason I like it on this bra!

5. LookFantastic
My valentine's day presents came in the mail today from the BF. He has gotten me everything that I wanted I may have picked it all out and used his credit card to pay for them (with his permission, of course!) He is such a genius when it comes to picking up presents for me :P ;)

He got me a Naked UD Flushed palette, UD 24/7 Waterproof Eyeliner in black, and a UD lash primer potion.

I've been slowing down in my spending, especially after that hefty iPad mini purchase. I am kind of jobless, so I don't have any disposable income to spend. :( Worst nightmare has come true!

NOTD: Essie Wife Goes On

I actually did this manicure after V-day, and after completing it, I realised how V-day appropriate it is...

See what I mean? So V-day appropriate!

I used the following polishes for my NOTD...
From left to right, Butter London Nail Foundation Flawless Basecoat, Essie Wife Goes On, Essie Status Symbol, Color Club Oooooo La La, Essie 3-way Glaze.

Sorry about the messiness - I got excited and started snapping pictures before cleaning up
After applying a coat of the Butter London Flawless Basecoat, I applied two coats of Wife Goes On. I then did the white hearts on the thumb and ring finger with Color Club's Oooooo La La. I had to do about two coats of that to make the white more opaque. After letting that dry, I used Essie's Status Symbol to paint on the pink heart on my thumb. I then finished off with about 3 coats of Essie's 3-way glaze, as I wanted to make sure that this mani lasted at least 5 days after all that trouble!

I didn't really do a good job with the white on my thumb, but I think I did a pretty good job regardless considering it was my first go at painting love hearts free hand!

It took me several goes to get my right hand done (I'm right handed). I so desperately wished (still do wish actually) my left hand wasn't so retarded uncooperative!

Lust Have It - February 2013

I finally received my LHI box today, one week to go till the end of the month. This month, the items did not come in the "new collector box", as LHI could not fit everything in.

The first thing I noticed when I opened this box was "OMG Am I missing something?! Why are there only four items?" I pulled everything out, did a quick count, and there was indeed only four items. I checked the info card, and it seems like I'm missing a Kerastase Paris Nector Themique. :(

Anyway, I'm sure LHI will rectify this problem... Now to get on with what I received.

1. Summer Tan By Mancine - full size (RRP: $29.95 for 250ml)
I'm actually not sure how I feel about getting self-tanners. Whilst I think it's great that LHI has provided an alternative to getting skin cancer (i.e. sun baking), but I'm such a lazy person and I really cbf when it comes to self-tanners or tanning in general. I mean it's nearly the end of summer, and I'm as white as I were in winter.

2. Styli-Style L3 Timeless Lipstick - full size (RRP: $19.95)
A full coverage lipstick that is non-drying and long-lasting. I got it in the colour Unity, which is a hot pink shade with silver shimmer.

It glided on really smoothly, and when it took quite a good scrub under running water to get it off. Impressive!

3. The Natural Source Camouflage Colour Nail Lacquers - full size (RRP: $9.99 for 12ml)
Yay!! I love getting nail lacquers in my boxes!! I got this in "Lacquer Brick", which I think appropriately describes the colour of this polish. Although it's not a colour I'd normally purchase for myself, I still really appreciate getting sent nail polishes!

4. Lon Vitalie C9 Moisturizing Hand Mask - full size (RRP: $4.50 for 1 pair)
Not sure how I feel about receiving a pair of hand masks either. I'm glad that I got the moisturizing one instead of the whitening hand mask, because I don't need my hands to go any whiter than they already are. But like I said earlier about the Summer Tan thingy, I'm such a lazy person, and when it comes to masks or self tanners.... I can't even complete the sentence because I'm that lazy.

That's all that was in my box. Overall, I'm feeling a bit "meh" about this box. There were two items out of the four that I like - lipstick and nail polish (even though the colours of both are not something I'd pick out for myself). Anyway, I'm off to write LHI an email... I want that Kerastase thingy!

What did you get in your LHI? Were you impressed?

EDIT: Was just brought to my attention that in the dispatched email, the item was not included because of weight restrictions, and that it will be included in March's box. Next question is... what happens if someone unsubscribes?! I'm not a very patient person, LHI! :(

Review: Benefit Fine One One

I had a few requests to do a review of Benefit's Fine One One, so here it is as promised!

Benefit Fine One One is a "sheer brightening colour for cheeks and lips". I have to admit that I have only used this as a blush, and not as a lip colour. I do not think I'd ever use it on my lips (just personal preference).

Benefit Fine One One has three different shades in one stick - pink champagne, sheer watermelon and soft coral. To apply, glide the stick across the cheeks to the temple with the pink champagne shade up the top, then blend in upward circular motions with fingers.

I absolutely love this rose gold packaging! It's so slim, sturdy and travel-friendly. It definitely does not look cheap.

There's a dial down the bottom of the tube that can be turned to get more product exposed for application. I also love that this product clicks shut, as I'm one of those people who hates it when caps fly off.

I love the creamy-ness of this blush, as it makes application a dream! The only problem that I've found is that it applies a tat too sheer for my liking. I tend to have to go back and reapply. You can see what I mean in the blended picture below.

With one application, Benefit Fine One One seems to disappear after blending, whereas two applications gives a good natural flush.

However.... I found that even with TWO applications, it just isn't enough for me. I tend to apply a layer of powder foundation with a heavy hand over the top of everything for setting purposes. Therefore, I like my blushes to be less sheer so that it still comes through the layer of powder foundation.

I took an "un-blended" and "after blended" picture with the blush. Just wanted to note that the after picture was prior to applying my powder foudation.

Unblended... sorry about the "stunned" look.. It's so weird that I can't even describe my look.

After blending Benefit Fine One One.. sorry this one's a bit blurry, didn't realise until it was too late
I'm not sure about you, but I don't think Fine One One gives me a "flushed" look at all... and this was BEFORE applying my powdered foundation. I tend to have to use another blush on top, which kind of defeats the purpose of applying Fine One One.

At USD$30 a pop, I don't think it's worth the money at all. I will not be repurchasing, as I think I get more bang for my buck with Benefit's Box O' Powders at USD$28 each. I highly recommend Hervana and Bella Bamba!

Have you tried Benefit Fine One One? What do you think? What are your favourite Benefit blushes or products?

What the postman brought me this week

I was really hoping an order that I made on behalf of the BF for my V-day present would arrive before (or even on) Valentine's Day, but that never happened. :( Fingers crossed it'll come next week!

Anyway, I only received a few orders this week. This is what Mr. Postman brought me...

1. Beautyheaven
I rarely get sent anything from BeautyHeaven, so this bottle of eye make-up remover was a complete surprise! Have used it to remove my layers of mascara a couple of times already, and it is quite impressive considering there is no oil!

2. Tarte Cosmetics via PriceUSA - AUD$86.30
I purchased Tarte Glow Your Way to Gorgeous Amazon Essentials kit in Medium for $49, Amazonian clay BB tinted moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 20 sunscreen in Agent 04 for $36, and I received a sample with my order - Amazonian clay BB illuminating moisturizer in champagne.

The  Glow Your Way to Gorgeous kit contains:
  • Maracuja Creaseless Concealer in Medium (full size)
  • SmolderEYES Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liner in Charcoal (full size)
  • Amazonian Clay Cream Eyeshadow in Shimmering Moss (full size)
  • LipSurgence lip luster in Delighted (full size)
  • Amazonian Clay 12-hour blush in Charisma (full size)
  • Lights, Camera, Lashes! 4-in-1 mascara (full size)
  • Shadow brush
  • Blush brush
  • Makeup bag
I think the jam packed makeup bag is SO worth the $49 for the amount of full size products!

I haven't actually used this Amazonian Clay BB tinted moisturizer yet, so I can't say much about it...

I was going to use this a few days ago, and I read the bottle and got seriously confused by the name of it.. "Illuminating serum". I forgot that it's meant to be a moisturizer and didn't know what to do with it, so I didn't end up using it!

3. Essie via Ozsale - AUD$30 including delivery
I seriously think I need to go for some nail polish rehab. I have FAR too many nail polishes, but I love every single one!

The colours that I purchased from top to bottom, left to right are:
Lady Like, In Stitches, Lovie Dovie, Cascade Cool, and Wife Goes On.

I have a NOTD coming up featuring Wife Goes On, so keep a look out for it!

4. Sheridyn Fisher Swimwear - AUD$38.82 including delivery
I promised myself that this would be the last pair of swimmers that I'd purchase for AT LEAST 6 months considering I rarely go to the beach. Damn you cancer!!! Anyway, I own a pair of Sheridyn swimmers prior to purchasing this one, and I absolutely loved it, so I purchased another since it was on special. The specials are still running, there are other styles available too!

That's it for this week!

In other news:
  1. Being a completely indecisive person, I need some help here. I've got four packages sitting at the HopShopGo warehouse in the states, and I'm faced with two options in regards to delivery. I can get it shipped to Singapore or to me, in Australia. Shipping to Singapore is about USD$20 cheaper, but I won't be able to get my hands on it till I go back in May. WHAT DO I DOOO?!?!
  2. I've just realised that I might have gone overboard with purchasing Tarte cosmetics (as well as other things...). Would anyone be interested in purchasing some from me via a blog sale?
