Review: B.Liv by Cellnique

I was contacted by Joyselin from B.Liv Skin to do a review on three products from the B.Liv skincare line. After telling Joyselin that I have oily-combination skin that is acne prone, large-ish pores but rarely get blackheads, and have old acne scars that I'd do almost anything for them to completely disappear, she chose three products that are best suited for my skin type and concerns.

The three products are Oil Leviate, Shrink and Tighten+, and Glow and Shine.

Joyselin included a letter with instructions on how and when to use these three products, along with a promo code, which will be revealed at the end of this post.

The instructions were:
  1. Cleanser
  2. Toner - Oil Leviate. Use daily, every morning and night.
  3. Serum - Shrink and tighten+. Pump 2-3 pea sized drops onto your palm. Apply over your face and neck using circular motions until fully absorbed.
  4. Moisturizer
  5. Weekly Mask - Glow and shine. Apply a thick layer evenly on face and neck, leave on for 5-10 minutes. Gently massage with wet hand in up and outwards circular motions for 5-10 seconds. Rinse well with plenty of water.
I was told that I should see results after two weeks. So after religiously using these products as per Joyselin's recommendations for two weeks, I thought I'd write this review before I go on my holiday!

Starting with the Oil Leviate...
I received two tiny bottles (3ml each). Each bottle lasted a week. Oil leviate is a mattifying moisturizer that is meant to control oil, hydrate skin, unclog pores, fade acne scars and help to remove blackheads and whiteheads. This product on paper sounds like THE ONE for me. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case. I didn't notice any oil control at all after two weeks. Prior to using this, I normally get quite conscious of my oil-slicked face at about 3-4pm, and feel the need to either blot or wipe/wash my face. After using this product, things have not changed.

You only need a tiny amount!
However, it was a pleasure applying this to my face, as my face absorbed this moisturizer almost instantly and there was no oily or greasy residue. It just felt like...nothing... Sort of like when you use an anti-bacterial gel to disinfect your hands, except without the sometimes-cooling-sensation. It is also fragrance-less, which may be a plus if you've got sensitive skin.

Next, we have the Shrink and Tighten+ serum...

You may be able to guess what this does from the name - it shrinks and tightens large pores! This is a glass bottle with a rubber tip, which I thought was quite interesting, as I've never come across a bottle such as this. Anyway, this product took slightly longer to be absorbed than the oil leviate. I think it probably takes about 10-20 seconds for the product to be fully absorbed.

Quite runny in comparison to the Oil Leviate

Shrink and Tighten+ has a herbally scent that may be unpleasant to some. I didn't mind it all that much, as it went away after applying my moisturizer.

I'm pleased and quite excited to say that this HAS worked on my skin. I've noticed that my pores have indeed shrunk. They are not as deep as they used to be, and they're smaller width wise. I wish I was a genius photographer so I could show before and after shots. Unfortunately I'm not, so you'll just have to take my word for it. I did measure a few of my pores prior to using this, and my pores were about 1mm in diameter, and they are now just teeny tiny dots that are about 0.5mm! This is a product I'd definitely recommend if you have large pores.

Last but not least, the glow and shine mask...

I've only used it twice so far (once a week as per the instructions) and I absolutely LOVE it. This mask is meant to brightening and whitening your skin tone, exfoliate and unclog pores, minimize pores, control oil, fade scars and keep acne at bay. Another wonder product (at least it is on paper)!

Unfortunately, I haven't actually noticed much "glow and shine". Actually, I lie... I noticed quite a lot of "shine" at the end of the day :(

But! I really liked how smooth my skin felt and how refreshing this mask is. It contains exfoliants that explains why my skin felt so smooth after using this, as well as menthol (my fav skincare ingredient) which explains the refreshing feeling. It also smells quite nice... I want to say fruity... but it's not really, although it contains papaya enzymes! This mask had a bit of a gritty texture, as expected since it has exfoliants. It took about 3 minutes to dry and felt a bit tight on my face once fully dry (which is the norm for face masks... at least for me it is). It wasn't all that hard to completely remove all traces of mask from my face, which I also love. Nothing more annoying than having to spend 5 minutes scrubbing dried gunk off your face!

Anyway, I think this is a great mask for exfoliating and I'm really hoping that this will help fade my unsightly acne scars with prolonged use!

Celebrating 800 GFC followers and my 1 year blogversary... A GIVEAWAY!

I thought a giveaway (or two) is in order after noticing that I've FINALLY reached the 800 GFC milestone! I then realised that I missed my 1 year blogversary by a few days (21 April 2012), and thought I should have another prize up for grabs to show my appreciation for all the support you have given me!

Unfortunately, since I'm poor from all my uncontrollable spending lately whilst being jobless, I can only afford to send one of the two prizes overseas. So one prize is for Australians, and the other is for anyone!

As I'm far too excited to delay this giveaway any longer, I will most likely add a few more things in each prize pack. Please note that I may NOT add anything else, but the chance of me adding more is highly likely ;)

Starting with the prize for Australians only AKA Prize 1...
  • MUA blushes in Shade 4 and 2
  • Maybelline Hyper Diamonds BR-2
  • MUA Out There Plumping Lip Gloss in Buff
  • Maybelline Colorsensational in 50 Luminous Latte
  • Sally Hansen Insta-dri in Ruby Rush
  • Essence Snow White Special Effect Topper polish
  • Tarte Pure Maracuja Oil
  • Maybelline Hyper Glossy Liquid Liner in Black
  • Maybelline baby Lips in Smoothing Cherry
  • Nicole by OPI mini Hit-makers
For the prize that anyone can win AKA Prize 2...
  • Beauty Pod in Pink
  • Maybelline Expert Wear Stylish Smokes in 04 Charcoal Smokes
  • Essence Silky Touch Blush in 30 secret-it girl
  • Maybelline Baby Lips in Mango Pie and Pink Lolita
  • Covergirl Clump Crusher in Very Black
  • De Slick Oil Control Makeup Setting-Spray (15ml)
I really want to add a nail polish or two in this prize pack, but I'm still contemplating risking it, especially when sending this overseas... Damn you shipping restrictions!!!

Anyway, onto the rules:
  1. If you're caught cheating, I will delete all your entries and you will be banned from future giveaways.
  2. You will also be banned from future giveaways if you're only following my blog because of this giveaway and unfollow straight after.
  3. If you're under the age of 16, please get permission from your parent(s), as I'll need your postal address details if you win.
  4. No giveaway blogs.
  5. Winner must respond within 48 hours or a new winner will be chosen.
  6. I will not be held accountable for any custom/import fees or taxes that may incur. Neither will I be accountable if anything breaks. However, I will try my best to ensure there is enough padding.

Lust Have It - April 2013

So I finally received my Lust Have It box yesterday, which is a tat later than usual, as I normally am the first ones to get it. This is also my last LHI box, unless I renew my yearly subscription. I have about 3 more days to get it at the old price of $160. Still can't decide whether or not I should, so let me know what you think I should do in the comments!!!

Unfortunately, LHI did not include an info card in my box, and after reading comments on their facebook page, it looks like everyone who received the same box as me didn't get a card either. >:( As a result, I have no idea what each item is worth and a limited idea of what they do (based from the description on the back of each product).

1. Paula's Choice Skin Balancing Carbon Mask - full size (AUD$39.95 for 118ml)
... absorbs excess oil and purifies the skin using a unique blend of clay and carbon (charcoal). This silky, light, glycerin-rich formula contains anti-inflammatory agents to cool skin. Easy-to-rinse formula leaves your skin feeling incredibly soft and perfectly balanced.
I'm frankly slightly disgusted. Since I have had no info card, I had to research the price of this. I found that in America it's USD$15.95 (here). I cannot understand why we're being charged over 100% more for the same product. Paula's Choice has lost a brownie point already!

2. Pink Tiger Nail File (AUD$1)
There are no information about this nail file anywhere, but if it's the same one on the pink tiger site, then it's a 220 grit on the front and 150 on the back. I haven't found a good "drugstore" nail file that lasts longer than 2 uses, so I buy my files from a professional nail shop for about $1.50 each. Looking forward to seeing if these are professional ones or cheapy-crap ones!

3. Gosh Mono Eye Shadow in 006 Black - full size (RRP: $16 for 1.7g)
I like black eyeshadows because they're perfect for setting black gel eyeliners! I'm not a big eyeshadow person anyway, so this colour is great for me!

4. Molton Brown Patchouli & Saffron Body Wash - 30ml (RRP: $39 for 300ml)
This smells amaaazing! It's got a really strong floralish smell. I've only smelt a couple of Molten Brown stuff from my brother's stash, and it's definitely got a typical Molten Brownish smell. Definitely looking forward to trying this out!

5. Aveda Shampooing Exfoliant and Thickening Conditioner - 10ml each (RRP: $49.95 for 200ml)
I feel like I'm balding, as I've been losing so much hair. I've asked my hairdresser about it and apparently I'm not shedding excessively, but I'm still worried. So I'm happy to give this a go, although I hope it doesn't irritate my scalp too much, as I do have an annoyingly itchy scalp too! I also hope I hate this product as this is so ridiculously expensive!

6. Rachel K CC Cream samples - (RRP: $39 for 50ml)
ARGH! The dreaded sachets! But I have heard of Rachel K and have been quite curious about this brand. So I guess I can overlook the packaging of these samples...

That's all I received in my Lust Have It box. I thought this box was reasonable. It's not the best box LHI have produced but it's not the worst. With all that in mind, do you think I should renew my subscription?

What the postman brought me

I thought it might be time for another "What the postman brought me" post, as I think if I left it for another week, I might have to split it up into two posts again. I'd like to apologise in advance for the quality of the photos, as the lighting in my room is extremely poor and since I've been working, I haven't been able to catch any daylight to take better photos!

1. Living Exclusive - AUD$35.86 + $9.90 Shipping
The thing I love about Living Exclusive (and Brands Exclusive) is that you can shop from multiple sales events at the same time, unlike OzSale, where once you have something in your cart from one event, you can't even browse another event without emptying your cart. Also, with Living Exclusive, you check out and pay shipping once. However, that comes at a disadvantage as well because all the items you've purchased come at the same time. So, if Living Exclusive receives the stock from one event, they won't send your stuff out until everything arrives.

I picked up another acrylic lipstick holder tray for $7.99, which I thought was a bargain compared to the one from Make Up Box Shop for $19.

I thought this acrylic love-heart shaped container would be fantastic for holding my hair ties and bobby pins. I purchased this for $6.99.

And to take advantage of the combined shipping, I purchased some non-essential candles from MikeRa in tropical delights pomegranate punch ($5.99) and apple martini ($4.99).

2. iHerb.com
When I found out that iHerb had the new Limited Edition Duo Fiber brush collection in stock, I HAD to get them. Unfortunately, they're currently out of stock, but will be getting them in 3 May. The brush set were USD$19.99. I also picked up an EcoTools Bath Sponge thingy (USD$1.70) and the Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Gel Creamliner for Brown Eyes (USD$10.51), which is AMAZING. Am planning to do a review in the near future.

If you're a new customer, you can get $10 off your first order of $40 or more, or $5 off orders less than $40 if you use the code CEW675 when checking out. Please note that I DO get credits when you use this code.

3. Adorebeauty.com.au
I had a teeny tiny sample of the Blue Orchid Clarins Face Treatment Oil, and that lasted me FOREVER. I'm talking months here! Although I didn't exactly use it every night, as it lived at the BF's. You only need a few drops for your whole face, and I found it really good for its moisturizing properties and it doesn't leave a disgusting greasy residue. I decided to get the Lotus version, which is for oily/combination skin because I think it'll be better suited for my skin type (oily-combination). This costs $41.16 on Adore Beauty, and shipping was $5.95. Since I had a $10 voucher, I ended up paying $37.11 altogether.

4. HQhair.com
My hair is absolutely disgusting. It breaks so easily and it's extremely dry. After using a sample of the Kerastase Nutritive Nectar Thermique from a beauty box, I noticed a significant difference in my hair. It felt so moisturized and it was really easy to manage. So I decided to pick a full sized bottle up from HQhair for £15.12 after finding a 10% coupon. I ended up paying £13.61 for it. I also picked up Urban Decay 24/7 lip pencil in Wallflower (£12.00, paid £10.80), and Mavala Eye-Lite Double Lash Night Treatment (£11.00, paid £9.90). Shipping was free! :)

5. Cherry Culture
Purchased a Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso for USD$6.99, NYX Wonder Pencil in Light for USD$4.50, four LA Colors Nail Polish Remover pads for USD$1.50 each, Japonesque Go Curl Pocket Curler for USD$10 and Japonesque Power Curl Eyelash Curler for USD$15.50. I could NOT decide which of the two eyelash curlers to get, despite reading a whole heap of reviews on both, so I got both... all in the name of blogging... and supporting the american economy ;)

If you follow me on twitter, you'd already know this but... THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT! I've FINALLY reached the 800 GFC milestone, and am currently planning a giveaway. I also failed massively and forgot my 1 year blog anniversary, which was on the 21st of April. So it might be a two prize giveaway! I'm still working it out, so keep your eyes peeled, as I'm hoping to get the giveaway up before I go on holidays in about a week's time!

The second prize pack that I received was from Her Fashion Box...

Thank you so much to HFB for this amazing prize!!!

Quick (but slightly controversial) question - I don't mean to sound ungrateful by any means, as I truly am grateful for winning this prize pack, but would it be frowned upon if I were to include a few of these items in my next giveaway, as I have some of these items already and want to share the love?

Glitter Guilty Pleasures Box & more + swatches

When I found Glitter Guilty on facebook and learnt all about their Glitter Guilty Pleasures Box, I knew I HAD to have it. Glitter Guilty is an indie brand by an amazing woman in the states, called Jessica. The Glitter Guilty Pleasures Box is a monthly subscription service for indie polishes made by Jessica, and it goes for USD$15.99 a month. Shipping within the US is included in that price, and for anywhere else, it's an extra $9. The Glitter Guilty Pleasures Box contains a monthly mini, which is sent to every subscriber, a customized full-sized polish that only you will have, and a treat or two (which may be chocolate, but if you have any allergies, she will work around that). For the customized full-sized polish, it is advisable to send a message to Jessica letting her know what you love (or hate) in a polish. Please note that the customized full-sized polish may not be exclusive to you only. You may receive one that is already in her shop, depending on your loves or hates.

Jessica is an amazingly friendly and accommodating person! She not only combined shipping for two full-sized polishes and the pleasures box, but Jessica also kindly sent me two mini-sized polishes for review purposes!

This is what she sent me...
Talk about glitter polish galore!! She also included a mini sized bottle of Seche Vite!!

The polishes I received from left to right (back row first) are Bunny Foo Foo (purchased for the BF's mum), Pink Parfait (purchased for me), Sweet Subtlety (my customized full-sized polish), Luck Be A Lady (gifted for review), MODemoiselle (gifted for review), April Showers (monthly mini), and Seche Vite. The little treat I received is All Natural Jers Squares Original Valencia Peanut Butter center mixed with crunchy rice crisp covered in milk chocolate... YUM!

I'm going to start the swatches off with the actual components of my Glitter Guilty Pleasures Box. For my customized full-sized polish, I told Jessica all about my love for stars and love-heart glitters in my polishes, as well as my obsession for creamy pink (perhaps with a bit of glitter or shimmer) polished nails. So with that in mind, she created Sweet Subtlety!
I am ABSOLUTELY in love with this polish!  It is a creamy pink polish with hot pink stars, and hot pink, pink and white glitters of various sizes and shapes (mostly squares, round, and hex glitter).

If you love this polish and wished you had one... HAVE NO FEAR! Jessica loved it so much, she had to create a polish very similar to this for herself (and her store). It's called A Subtle Star, and you can find it in her shop here for USD$8 (full size). Neither Jessica nor I know exactly how similar the two polishes are, but they do look really similar!

Sweet Subtlety on ring finger

Bottle shot of Sweet Subtlety
My first attempts at "macro" shots. Excuse the crapness... This is two coats, no undies, with a coat of Butter London Hardwear topcoat.

I did not have to fish a lot for the stars and bigger glitters, which is fantastic. The formula was smooth and not gloopy at all, and the drying time was really fast, especially with the Butter London topcoat on top. I waited about 15 minutes before going to bed, and I didn't wake up to wrinkles or marks on my nails!

The monthly mini that I got was April Showers. I do apologise for the sloppy application. It was getting quite late and I was tired from work (not used to this 9-5 working business thing...). April Showers is a grey shimmery polish with a tinge of blue. It has got large silver hex glitters and red flowers. I really like the contrasting red flowers in this polish. I did find that I had to fish a bit for the red flowers, as the large glitters had sunk down the bottom despite me shaking the bottle for 2 minutes and tipping the bottle upside down for about a minute or two.

Bottle shot of April Showers

April Showers on middle finger

I do really love this polish, and this has definitely convinced me to get another pleasures box!

The next lot of polishes were the mini sized ones that Jessica sent me for review. I shall start off with Luck Be a Lady...
Luck Be a Lady is a clear base with gold and pink glitters. On my index finger, I have one coat of Luck Be A Lady. Middle finger, two coats. Ring finger, 1 coat over 2 coats of Essie Camera. Pinky, 1 coat over 2 coats of China Glaze Go Go Pink,

In the photo above, my index had a coat of Luck Be A Lady; middle had two coats; ring had two coats over two coats of Essie Camera; and pinky had two coats over two coats of China Glaze Go Go Pink.
Luck Be A Lady on middle finger

Bottle shot of Luck Be A Lady
As you can see in the picture above, Luck Be A Lady is jam packed with glitters, so no fishing required! I think it's such a versatile polish as you can use it to layer over another polish to "bling" it up a bit, or you can wear it on it's own. I think I'm going to try do a glitter gradient with this polish on the weekend, and if it turns out good, look for it on my instagram!

You can get Luck Be A Lady here. It is USD$8 for a full sized bottle.

The second polish that Jessica sent me for review was MODemoiselle...
MODemoiselle is a pink crelly (creme-jelly) polish with small and large black and white squares. Please excuse my crap application once again, as it is quite dim in my room and I didn't realise it looked this crap until I took a heap of photos.

Like April Showers, this polish needs to be left upside down for a few minutes, as the large squares are quite heavy and sink down to the bottom. I didn't have too much trouble getting the larger squares out after leaving it upside down for about 2 minutes and giving it a good shake.

I applied two coats of MODemoiselle on each nail with no undies, and a coat of Butter London topcoat over the top.

MODemoiselle on ring finger
Application wise, it was easy peasy. I think my downfall in application was forgetting to "cap" the edge of my nails, and not going close enough to the cuticle to cover my gelish polish underneath. Please don't let my crap photos turn you off this polish, as it is amazing. I have nothing like this in my nail polish collection, so it's definitely unique (at least to me).

You can get MODemoiselle here for USD$8 (full size).

Lastly, I have Pink Parfait swatches to show you...
I purchased Pink Parfait with my own money. Pink Parfait is another pink shimmery polish (I told you I love pink polishes...) with hot pink-reddish glitters of various sizes and shapes. Although I'm not the biggest fan of bar glitters, I actually don't really mind it in this polish because the bars aren't very thin, and they didn't stick up/out of my nail bed.

Pink Parfait on ring finger
Although that macro shot of my ring finger is a bit blurry, I thought I'd chuck it on here and it shows a bit of the gold shimmery goodness of Pink Parfait.

Unfortunately, Pink Parfait is not on sale on Glitter Guilty, but you may be able to hint to Jessica to create another one or something similar if you are getting a Pleasures Box. Also, if you do decide to get one, I'd really appreciate it if you could enter my name "Abigail Teo" in the Referred by section of the Pleasures Box subscription form.

I could not do a swatch of Bunny Foo Foo for you, as I am giving this bottle to the BF's mum (as mentioned above). However, there are swatches on Glitter Guilty's shop here, and you can also purchase it for USD$8 (full size).

Please also show some love to Jessica, and like her facebook page here. She does a giveaway or two every so often on her facebook page, and you will also be the first one to know when she releases any new polishes!

Love Thy Polish swatches!

Emma, the woman behind Love Thy Polish, kindly sent me a few mini bottles of polishes for swatches and review. Emma is a South Australian indie polish maker, who sells extremely affordable, yet friggin gorgeous polishes!

Emma sent me three gorgeous polishes - Milkshake It, Peppermint Patty, and Miss Bossy Pants.

Love Thy Polish - Milkshake It
In the picture above, my index finger had one coat of polish; middle had two coats; ring and pinky had three coats. As you can see, Milkshake It is a really opaque polish, which is perfect if you're on the go and only have time for a one-coat mani. Milkshake It is a pastel pink polish with various sizes of red, purple, green and blue hex glitters.

Application wise, I thought it was fairly easy. The brush was easy to use, it wasn't gloopy and it dried pretty darn quickly. However, I did had to fish the bigger chunks of glitter by shaking the bottle quite hard and hope that a big chunk gets trapped on the brush. Other than that, Milkshake It is a gorgeous pastel, milky pink polish that I highly recommend!

Love Thy Polish - Peppermint Patty
Peppermint Patty was the second polish that I swatched (rather poorly, sorry about the cuticle mess, I was in a rush to catch the sun). My index had one coat, middle had two, ring and pinky had three coats of polish. Peppermint Patty is a milky, pale-green-minty polish with light blue-greyish squares, light green and teal hexes, topped with a gorgeous shimmer.

Love Thy Polish - Peppermint Patty with flash
Application wise, this was also a breeze! Although the first coat wasn't as opaque as Milkshake It, I didn't have to fish too hard for the bigger chunks of glitter. Drying time was also really quick, which I greatly appreciate in polishes, as I'm not the most patient person in the world... I'm going to be a great mum one day lol

My favourite thing about this polish is the light green glitters in this polish. I think they compliment the teal and minty green-ness of this polish so well!

Love Thy Polish - Miss Bossy Pants
Miss Bossy Pants is my ultimate favourite out of the three polishes that Emma sent me. As a result, I'm spamming you with photos!

In the photo above, I wanted to show you the colour of my "bare" nails. My "bare" thumb had two coats of parisian pink from the Luminail kit that I purchased via Ozsale (read more here). My index had a coat of Miss Bossy Pants, and my middle finger had two coats. My ring finger had a coat of Miss Bossy Pants over a coat of Barry M Prickly Pear, and my pinky had two coats of Miss Bossy Pants over a coat of Barry M Prickly Pear.

Love Thy Polish - Miss Bossy Pants with flash
Miss Bossy Pants has a clear base with various shades of purple hexes and silver micro glitter, making it a fantastic "topper". Miss Bossy Pants was absolutely a breeze to apply - no fishing required! Like the other two Love Thy Polish polishes, Miss Bossy Pants dried really quick and was not gloopy at all. There are so many different combinations that you can achieve with Miss Bossy Pants, and I cannot wait to pair it up with my other polishes!

If you'd like to purchase some Love Thy Polish polishes, Emma is selling 8ml bottles for AUD$6, and 12ml bottles for AUD$9, which I think is super affordable! All Love Thy Polishes are also 3-free and made in Australia. If you'd like to purchase some or look at Emma's other amazing creations, please check out her web-store here. Emma also ships internationally! :)

These polishes were sent for my consideration.
