Products That Saved My Life... from pimples

So I was in the shower today when I thought of doing a series of "Products that have saved my life". I actually had a shampoo in mind when this series popped up in my head, and I hope to share it in the next installment of this series. In this series, I will be doing short reviews of each products that I consider must-haves for the (multiple) problems that I am currently facing.

Having gone off the magical pill last month, I've been so scared that my acne will come back and take over my face. Thankfully I haven't had massive breakouts, but I have a rather annoying pimple that I swear likes being the center of attention, considering it's in a not-so-discrete location - smack bang in the middle between my eyebrows. It's still there but it has significantly decreased in size, and I have these products to thank.

Anti-blemish Skinetica*; Mario Badescu Drying Lotion; Mario Badescu Healing Cream

There is also another product not featured in this picture that I use for oil-oozing pimples. More on this product towards the end of this post.

1. Anti-Blemish Skinetica*
I feel really bad because I was sent this product for review MONTHS ago (I think around about in February) and this is truly amazing. I haven't reviewed this anti-blemish skin treatment because I've been having such amazing skin with the occasional pimple once every few months. I wanted to test this out thoroughly before expressing my thoughts and experiences on my blog. Anyway, I thought this will be the perfect post to review this product since I've been using it on this horrid pimple.

This has no harsh chemicals, non-toxic, non-staining, and has been dermatologically tested. So it's perfect for anyone with sensitive/delicate skin (which I don't, but I don't particularly like putting harsh chemicals on my pimples, despite me wanting to burn the bloody thing off at times).

To use this, you have to pour a bit out on a cotton pad and dab the affected areas before makeup or moisturizer. You then just leave it to dry (which doesn't take long at all). I use this every morning and night, after cleansing.

It's a colourless liquid that has a mild scent. Although it isn't the greatest smell in the world, it's so mild that it doesn't bother me at all because after you slather on moisturizer or other acne treating products, the smell goes away.

I found that this does not dry out the skin around my pimple, and since it's not an oil, it doesn't make my skin oily either. It also magically dried out my pimple quite significantly throughout the day. I definitely noticed a difference in the size of it at the end of the day after removing my makeup (although this may also be due to the effects of Mario Badescu Healing Cream...).

I also love that this does not at all affect makeup application. I absolutely hate it when anti-blemish products cause my makeup to look patchy. I highly recommend Skinetica! You can purchase Skinetica here.

2. Mario Badescu Healing Cream

"Control redness, inflammation and other minor skin irritations associated with acne. Our soothing, oil-free Healing Cream calms upon application and helps the healing process to minimise scarring. Apply day or night on affected areas before moisturizer."

I'm a huge fan of Mario Badescu skin care. I haven't found a Mario Badescu product I don't like. But this is one of my ultimate favourite pimple-busting products.

It smells really calming and reminds me strangely of baby powder. It's a thick, non-appealing greenish yellow cream. I find that if you do not immediately rub the product into your skin until the colour fades, you will have a hell of a time trying to get your skin to absorb the product.

I apply this product after Skinetica dries morning and night. I do not get a greasy feeling after using this, despite it being a thick cream. I didn't have any problems with applying makeup over the top of this healing cream either.

You can purchase this healing cream from Kit Cosmetics for AUD$26.95 (currently temporarily unavailable online).

3. Mario Badescu Drying Lotion
"For immediate relief from unsightly whiteheads and pimples, dab one drop of the solution on each erupted area overnight."

This is such a unique product. I'm so glad I read the instructions before I used this because you are not supposed to shake the solution. To use this, you take a cotton swab and dip it into the pink sediment, apply it on your pimple and leave it on overnight.

When it dries, it looks like you've applied a mask on your skin. I personally do not feel it on my face (maybe because it's only on such a small area).

It smells quite... medicated? It's not a very pleasant smell, but once it's dry, I cannot smell it at all.

The results of this is truly remarkable. My pimple went practically flat after one use, and with the help of a bit of foundation and concealer, my face is flawless!

You can purchase this from Kit Cosmetics for AUD$26.95.

4. Nexcare Acne Dressing
This the magical oily-pimple-busting product I was talking about earlier in this post. I've actually raved about this on twitter (if you're following me on twitter, you'd know. If not, WHY AREN'T YOU FOLLOWING ME? =( ). Anyway, it comes in a variety of shapes and packaging... There's even ones that targets the male species. But I haven't really noticed any difference.

I use this by sticking on my pimple before bed. As you can see in the picture above, it's almost translucent (with a yellow tinge). When you wake up in the morning, the sticker goes white from absorbing the oil from your pimple. I then peel the sticker off feeling oh-so-disgusted at what my skin has harvested, revealing a really smooth surface where the massive crater of a pimple used to be. As I said before, this ONLY works on oil-oozing pimples.

Although they say that this can be worn under makeup, I highly recommend you do not do so because it is not concealable... believe me, I've tried. The sticker is just too thick to be concealed properly. So I suggest just using this overnight, whilst sleeping.

You can get this miraculous acne dressing from sasa.com for ~AUD$5.80.

Have you got a pimple-busting product that you absolutely love?

    1. Just did a quick google. So apparently there's an American version which contains Benzoyl Peroxide and the European one that contains salicylic acid. Which one do you have?

  5. I bought the drying lotion after you recommended it and the first thing I did was shake it hahaha. I've been using the Nexcare acne dressings that you bought me and they don't work really well.. but that's probably because my pimples aren't normally the ones that want to pop :( kind of wish they were haha

  11. I find oil therapy to be quite effective in clearing pores and preventing acne buildup myself. Before, I thought that removing most oils in my face would help solve the problem. But I noticed that using such products tend to make my skin more sensitive and actually hurt when exposed to the sun. With the oil therapy and constant face-washing, my face is actually more supple and acne incidents are at an all-time low.
