Review: Neutrogena Naturals lip balm, purifying pore scrub, fresh cleansing and makeup remover.

I was sent a few products from the new Neutrogena Naturals range quite a while ago, and thought it was about time I did a review on them. The products I received were the lip balm, fresh cleansing + makeup remover, and purifying pore scrub.
L-R: Neutrogena Naturals Lip Balm; Fresh Cleansing + makeup remover; purifying pore scrub
The Neutrogena Naturals range is described as an "ecologically friendly skincare product range that harness the power of naturally derived ingredients and bionutrients to deliver safe and effective results. Neutrogena Naturals embraces the heritage of the core brand and upholds the promise of “gentle, effective and clinically-proven” while fulfilling consumer desires for efficacious naturally derived products."

Most importantly, Neutrogena Naturals is free from sulfates, parabens, and dyes.

Neutrogena Naturals Lip Balm is made of 100% naturally derived ingredients (beeswax, jojoba seed oil, sesame seed oil, sunflower oil, olive oil, shea butter, and cocoa seed butter). The bionutrient omega fatty acid (aka olive oil) nourishes dry lips, making them look healthy.

My thoughts:
I love that this lip balm has a pepperminty smell. It reminds me of Christmas (candy canes). I also love that it feels so moisturizing from the first swipe, without making my lips feel super oily/greasy. I have to admit that I haven't been using this religiously, so I can't really comment on the long term effects of this lip balm. However, for the price ($4.99), I think it's a great deal for a product that works (at least in the short term). It's a great lip balm to use under a drying lipstick.

Neutrogena Naturals Purifying Pore Scrub retails for $14.99. It has 94% naturally derived ingredients from coconut, guar bean, willow bark and jojoba oil. The willowbark is a natural slicylic acid that helps remove dirt, oil and makeup. It also contains beads to help gently scrub away impurities. This pore scrubs washes away dull dead skin cells, detoxifying pores. It is suitable for acne-prone skin.

My thoughts:
Unfortunately, this product is a bit of a dud for me. Although it smells really nice, it does nothing for my skin. The scrub is far too gentle for my liking, and it doesn't feel like it's does anything for my skin. I've actually been quite tempted to use it with my Clarisonic because this scrub isn't very gritty at all, but I decided against it because it does have the slightest amounts of grit. If you have super sensitive skin, then this scrub is probably for you. Other than that, I probably wouldn't recommend this to anyone who is looking for a gritty scrub.

Neutrogena Naturals Fresh Cleansing + Makeup Remover retails for $14.99. It is made up of 86% naturally derived ingredients, which include coconut, Peruvian tara seed and guar bean. The Peruvian Tara Seed is rich in vitamin A, vitamin B, vitamin E and complex sugars, which leaves skin soft and rinses clean. It cleans skin and removes makeup in one-step without stripping skin’s natural moisture (developed for fragile skin around the eyes).

My thoughts:
I really like this cleanser! The smell of this reminds me of fresh apples for some strange reason. It is a really refreshing scent. It does not strip my face of natural oils - i.e. my skin doesn't feel tight after use.
I have tried the makeup-remover properties of this cleanser once, and whilst it did a surprisingly good job at removing all of my face makeup, it didn't do too well with removing waterproof mascara and eyeliner. After using it to remove my makeup, I felt the need to re-wash my face again, as it just didn't feel clean (but maybe that might all just be in my head). I would not use this again as a makeup-remover cleanser, but it's a great everyday cleanser (after your makeup has been removed). The only thing that I wish this cleanser had is menthol. That's probably the only thing that my all time favourite cleanser, Dermalogica Dermal Clay Cleanser, has over this Neutrogena Naturals Fresh Cleanser.

Have you tried any of these products before? What are your thoughts?

These products were kindly provided for my consideration. All opinions expressed are my own.

  1. Even though I have sensitive areas on my face, I still prefer a gritty scrub. I've not tried any of these products, the peppermint lip balm sounds nice, does it have any SPF?

  2. I've only tried the lipbalm in the Naturals range. For it's price it's super moisturising and does not irritate sensitive lips.

  7. I felt exactly the same way about the face cleanser: more cleanser than makeup remover! But it's still quite a nice product.
