Empties - May 2014

It's time for yet another empties post. Whilst cleaning and packing up my junk, I found a few "empties" I forgot to include in previous Empties post (we're moving today!). Therefore, there are a few more items in some categories than usual, in particular hair care and facial wipes.

1. Nizoral 2% Anti-Dandruff Treatment
I've been using this instead of my Selsun Blue to treat and prevent dandruff. This leaves my hair feeling really squeaky clean and is effective, as I don't get an itchy scalp when I use this. It also smells pleasant unlike most other pharmacy strength anti-dandruff treatments. The downside is the hefty price tag. However, you're only meant to use this twice a week, so it should last a while (it lasted me about 5-6 weeks).

2. L'Oreal Elvive Anti-Breakage Deep Repair Treatment
I've been using this as a conditioner instead of a mask/treatment, as my hair is damaged and gets really dry and tangled. I found that this worked brilliantly as a conditioner, and I would repurchase.

3. Earth Science Olive & Avocado Hair Treatment
I also used this as a conditioner, and wasn't too impressed. I prefer the L'Oreal Elvive one (above) and tried to alternate when I've had a good-ish hair day to use this up. I would not repurchase, as it did nothing for my hair.

4. Garnier Fructis Anti-Dandruff Shampoo
This is such an interesting shampoo. I was alternating this with the Nizoral shampoo. My scalp didn't feel "exfoliated" like my face would with a scrub, but my scalp wasn't irritated, and it didn't dry out my hair. So it's a win-win!

5. Garnier Fructis Ultra Nourishing Mask
I was also using this as a conditioner, and I really liked this mask. It detangled my hair and made it feel so soft. The only thing I dislike about this mask is that it comes in a tub. I much prefer conditioners/masks to come in a bottle/tube for ease of use.

6. Clearasil Daily Clear Vitamins & Extracts Daily Wash
I was using this as my morning face wash. It was an ok product, and it's nothing I'd write home about, which explains why I haven't done a review on it. I probably would not repurchase, as there are better products out there and far too many that I'd love to try.

7. The Body Shop Matsuma Shower Gel
This shower gel makes you feel like you're showering in orange juice. Although I'm not the biggest fan of citrus smelling shower gels, I didn't mind this one.

8. LORAC POREfection Mattifying Face Primer
I did a review on this here, so I won't go into too much detail about this primer. It's a silicone based primer, which I found great for my oily skin. I would repurchase if LORAC was more available in Australia.

9. David Jones Milk & Honey Cream
This moisturizer smells so clean. It did a great job at moisturizing my skin too. I'd repurchase if I didn't have  a whole heap of moisturizers to go through.

10. Mary Kay Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover (travel size)
This is one of those eye makeup removers that claim to be oil-free but have two distinct layers that require shaking to mix. I'm pretty sure there's oil in there, which may explain why there are two distinct layers when left alone for a few minutes. Regardless, it removed stubborn waterproof mascara and eyeliner well.

11. Lancome Hydra Zen Neurocalm
I was using this a night cream. I think it's a bit too moisturizing for my skin as I woke up with an oily face (particularly around the nose) several times.

12. Neutrogena Rapid Clear Deep Cleansing Wipes
I have a love-hate relationship with these wipes. Whilst it does a marvellous job at removing my makeup, it stings the crap out of my eyes. It also leaves a layer of something on my skin, which makes me want to wash my face immediately after (I tend to have a shower straight after removing my makeup anyway). I won't be repurchasing as there are makeup removing wipes that I prefer (see item 14 below).

13. Johnson's 3-in-1 Facial Cleansing Wipes
This is the last of my Johnson's 3-in-1 Facial Cleansing Wipes. I am no longer a fan, after having found far more superior wipes. This is too dry for my liking, and doesn't remove as much makeup as other wipes on the market.

14. Wotnot Facial Wipes for oily/sensitive skin (5 wipes)
Love these wipes! They are everything Items 12 and 13 aren't. They remove my makeup well, they don't sting my eyes and they leave my skin feeling clean. Would and have already repurchased.

15. Essence Get BIG! Lashes Waterproof (Black)
Whilst I'm impressed at the volume I manage to achieve with this mascara, I'm not too happy at how long it lasted before I deemed it bin-worthy. Compared to my other mascaras, this lasted about 1-2 months (which to Essence's defence is how long you're meant to keep a mascara). It ended up being too gunky to use. On the plus side, it's affordable to replace!

16. Lancome Cils Booster XL (travel sized)
Not too sure how long I've had this in my drawer for, as I have another that is opened. I used this every day for the month of May before deciding to throw it out. It's a great primer that helps lengthen your lashes and add a touch of volume.

That's all the empties I have for May. What have you emptied lately?

  1. great post! I love the Mary Kay eye makeup remover and the Clearasil wash is nice and gentle for my skin. I'm going to have to hunt down that Garnier Shampoo scrub - sounds really interesting. I have the non-waterproof Essence Get Big Lashes and it's lasted ages (way longer than you're supposed to keep them for :P ), shame this one hasn't. Good luck with moving!

  2. Nice post! That Garnier anti-dandruff shampoo sounds like a must try, it's getting harder for me to find anti-dandruff shampoos recently.

  3. Well done on the empties! I am so in love with that Satsuma body shop scent, so good for citrus lovers like me!

  4. Good job with the empties! I find Essence mascaras can be a bit hit and miss.
