Memebox - Superbox #44 No Makeup Makeup

This is my third Memebox, and I'm quite frankly impressed with the whole concept of it! If you don't know what Memebox is, it is a one box beauty subscription box with products from Korea, and each box has a theme. For more information, please read the review of my first Memebox - My Cute Wishlist (read here) or check out Memebox's website (click here).

As the title says, this box is all about achieving the no makeup look. This box is a superbox, so all six products in this box are full sized. It was USD$35.99, but using my $15 coupon, I only paid $20.99 including shipping.

 1. drww. Power Lift Strong Cream - 50g (RRP: $60)
"Containing Omega 3.6.9, hyaluronic acid, and 5 different kinds of flower seed extracts, Drww's Power Lift Strong Cream works to treat skin darkening and wrinkles. The best part of this cream, however, is in its function as a makeup booster. It can also be applied in small amounts along the T-zone for highlighting your features before or after makeup. What's more, mix it in with a makeup base or a foundation and apply on your face for a naturally glowing and radiant complexion."

This cream smells like roses, which I currently have a rather strange obsession with. I've only applied it to the back of my hand, and it feels super hydrating. It also absorbs quickly and doesn't feel oily or greasy. However, I'm not sure about the "highlighting features" claim. The area where I've applied the cream on the back of my hand doesn't look any different to the rest of my skin.

2. Milky Dress Silky Velvet Primer - 30ml (RRP: $30)
"The Silky Velvet Primer works to make your skin soft and silky before application of base makeup. Made from "USDA" patented organic ingredients such as rhodiola rosea root extracts, damask rose extracts, and rosemary leaf extracts, this primer is gentle and adheres thinly and smoothly to the skin, filling in all the uneven skin texture and fine lines & wrinkles for a long-lasting, velvet-like skin condition."

Bearing in mind that I've just applied this to my face prior to writing this for the first time, I can't say that it minimizes pores by "filling in all the uneven skin texture", as I can still clearly see them. My skin does feel smooth though! As I always use primer underneath my makeup, this will definitely be used unless it breaks me out.

3. Missha The Style Perfect Concealer in Natural Beige - 3g (RRP: $4)
"The Style Perfect Concealer naturally covers up skin imperfections and dark circles and prevents skin tone from darkening throughout the day. The gentle formula soothes the skin yet at the same time strongly adheres to the skin for a long-lasting coverage."

This concealer shade is perfect for my skintone. I've used it a few times to cover up acne scars that peek through some lightweight foundations I've been using, and it has worked a treat. I usually prefer liquid concealers, but I don't mind this one, as it's creamy and applies like a dream.

4. ProYou Vita CC Lip Essence Red Rose - 15ml (RRP: $24)
"Enriched with vitamin E, shea butter, jojoba oil, and macadamia oil, this Lip Essence works to deeply moisturize dry, chapped lips and protect it from further dehydration by delivering nutrition from within. What makes this lip product so unique is that when applied, it'll alter its color according to individual's lip color and pH level. Thus, the Vita CC Lip Essence will not only moisturize and care for your lips but also add natural color and radiance at the same time!"

I've swatched this at least 10 times - on my lips, on a baby wet wipe, on the back of my hand, on a tissue, and I'm still skeptical about the whole "change of colour depending on your lip's colour and pH level" thing. However, I have to admit that this is the most unusual "lip essence" I've ever seen, mostly because of the way it's packaged.

It has this edge (see picture below), where you put your finger on to push the whole top down to release product before smearing it on your lips. It's something I've never seen before. I think it's a nifty idea to dispense liquid lip products without a doefoot application. I also think it's more hygienic since the applicator is plastic and can be wiped or even washed.

The product on both tissue and wet wipe comes up bright fuschia pink. Thankfully (since I'm conservative with my lip colours), it doesn't translate on the lips. It looks rather natural on the lips in that it has a very slight tint. Unfortunately, I didn't do a lip swatch, as it's so slight it's practically impossible to photograph. I did an arm swatch though - see further down.

It is quite moisturizing like a lip balm, but isn't sticky at all unlike a lip gloss. I think it'll make a great lip product for under drying lipsticks.

 5. DD'ell Gel Color Pot in 08 Snowy White - 5.5g (RRP: $16)
"A whitening, anti-wrinkle, brightening and moisturizing facial essence. Now this Gel Color Pot is a real multi-player when it comes to featuring a natural, no-makeup look. It works as a light snowy-colored shadow and a highlighter all in one! Its texture is cushiony and creamy when applied, and the subtle pearls and sophisticated color formation brings out the best in your complexion."

The texture of this product is interesting. Granted, I've never tried any of the "cushion" products that seem to have hit the shelves of beauty stores - e.g. Maybelline bouncy blush. I can only imagine that this would feel similar to products similar to Maybelline's bounch blush. I'm not the biggest fan of this colour though. It's looks far too white on my skin to pass off as a natural highlighter (see swatch further down). It may make a good eyeshadow colour base though.

 6. Macqueen New York Mineral CC Cushion Cover SPF50++ PA+++ - 13g (RRP: $23)
"This popular Mineral CC Cushion is widely acknowledged for its high level of UV protection and moisture, effective and long-lasting coverage, and its non-sticky, silky after touch previously unfounded in any other CC or Air Cushions. Dab away with the Mineral CC Cushion to feature the ultimate no-makeup look, because it'll bring out the most natural and healthy looking glow on your face! Plus, the high concentrates of bamboo water deliver instant soothing and cooling effect, making it perfect to be used in the summer times."

I have yet to use this on my face, and although it looks quite dark, I'm hoping that it'd be a good shade for me, as it looks perfect when swatched on my arm. I've wanted to try these Korean Cushion foundations for the past few months, and I'm semi-disappointed that I received this AFTER purchasing a Verite one from ebay (will be doing a haul post soon, as it came with quite a number of extras). Regardless, I'm still excited to give this a go and compare the two.

Overall, I think this box is amazing. This is definitely my favourite out of the three boxes I've received thus far. I'm lucky to have received products that are suitable for my skintone, however, this may not be the case if you have porcelain or a darker skin tone. This is an obviously con for Memebox's makeup themed boxes, but I do believe that they do note this down in the description on their website for boxes where a foundation or concealer product is included. I think they usually only have one shade available, so do look out for the warning.

I've got another 5 boxes coming my way over the next two months, so I'm super excited to see what Memebox has got installed for me. I definitely think this is an amazing subscription service.

Have you purchased a Memebox before? Which one did you get? What are your thoughts?

  1. Seriously, memebox sounds so awesome! I'm not really that keen on subscription boxes but this is one that I'd definitely look into. I look forward to reading how you go with the CC cushion!
