Empties - October 2014

I'm pretty sure I've broken my record of most products used in a month. I thought my empties post was going to be longer than usual about halfway through the month, but didn't quite realise it was going to be this big (that's what she said). In hind sight, I probably could have split this into two smaller posts. Without going on and making excuses for not splitting this up, I'd get started with my empties this month!

1. Joico Color Endure Violet Shampoo
I absolutely LOVE this violet shampoo. I used to be on the fence when it comes to figuring out if this was better than the quite hyped about Natural Look Silver Screen Ice Blonde shampoo, but after finishing the Joico one and only having the Natural Look one to use, I've realised how much I've missed and love the Joico shampoo. It just seems to be more intense and thus work better at eliminating the brassiness in my hair. Unfortunately, I have a huge 1 litre bottle of Silver Screen shampoo to use up before I can repurchase the Joico one. But I'd highly recommend this shampoo if you have trouble keeping brassiness out of your bleach blonde locks.

2. Palmolive Intensive Moisture Shampoo
Although this Palmolive shampoo smells really good, I didn't think it did much for my hair in terms of moisture. As such, I wouldn't repurchase.

3. L'Oreal Ever Pure Moisture Conditioner
I am not a fan of this conditioner at all. You cannot imagine the happiness I felt when I finally finished this. I may have used more than necessary during each application just to get it out of my shower. It did not moisturize my hair at all, was fairly average at detangling, and I was not a fan of the smell of it either. I say good riddance.

4. Macadamia Deep Repair Masque
I love the Macadamia hair range, especially this deep repair masque. It moisturized my hair beautifully, detangled, and left my hair smelling nice. I used it over the top of the L'Oreal Ever Pure Moisture Conditioner to help in areas where the L'Oreal conditioner was lacking (i.e. moisture and smell).

5. Bath & Body Works Shower Gel - Secret Wonderland
I love Bath & Body Works shower gels, and this one definitely did not disappoint. I normally am happy when I'm nearing the end of a product, however, I was sad when I finished this shower gel. Although, come to think of it, I am normally sad when I finish a Bath & Body Works shower gel. My stash is dwindling but I still do have a few more bottles left. I might have to stock up again fairly soon. Would definitely recommend Bath & Body Works shower gels!

6. Verite Moisture Cleansing Foam
I was quite surprised at how quickly I finished this cleanser. I used it with my clarisonic and they seem to compliment each other fairly well. Out of the tube, the cleanser is a gel consistency. However, when you massage it into your skin, it does foam up a little (although not as much as cleansers that foam out of the bottle). It cleansed my face well, and my skin didn't feel tight after. It's a fairly average cleanser that I would use if I received this again as a gift with purchase, however I wouldn't go out of my way to purchase this.

7. Tsubaki Damage Care Hair Mask
Tsubaki is a Shiseido brand. I had high hopes for this hair masque and it certainly did not disappoint. I purchased this hair masque in Singapore, and unfortunately have not seen this in Australia (well at least in a brick and mortar store). It smells fantastic, moisturized and detangled my hair well. The only thing I would change is the packaging - a tube like the Macadamia one above would be fantastic, as not only is it easier to open, but it also prevents water from getting in the container. I would repurchase this!

8. Glamglow Supermud Clearing Treatment
I've seen quite a number of photos online where you can see darker areas after this face mask has dried on your face. The darker areas are supposedly gunk that has been drawn out by the mask. I think it's a bit of a hoax, as the bits there were darker weren't where my blemishes were. They were kind of in random places. However, my skin did feel soft and blemishes mysteriously disappeared fairly quickly after use. Not quite sure if I would repurchase, as it is quite expensive.

9. Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil
This argan oil has been mentioned in my daytime and nighttime skincare routine in August (read here and here). I absolutely love this oil, as it did not leave my skin feeling oily and uncomfortable despite having already oily skin. It moisturized my skin, and I would definitely be repurchasing this.

10. Neutrogena Hydro Boost (sample)
For some reason, I was surprised and quite impressed with the Neutrogena Hydro Boost. Although it's not as moisturizing as the Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil, it was great as a short term solution. It is a gel type moisturizer that absorbs into my skin quickly without leaving any greasy/sticky residue. It also smells nice. I'm not sure if I would purchase the full size, as there are better moisturizers out there - I still prefer the Josie Maran Argan Oil over this.

11. Orly Bonder Basecoat
I've been using this basecoat for the past year or two, and it's one of the best basecoats I've tried. It dries quickly and stops the nail polish from staining your nails. I've heard that it's fantastic for removal of glitter polishes, as you can peel them off in the shower. However, I haven't tried this, as I normally have acrylics on underneath and don't think it works. Also, I don't stay in the shower long enough to for this to work. Would definitely repurchase.

12. Maybelline Lasting Drama Pen Gel Liner
I did a review on this pen gel liner last year (read here) and have compared it to the Benefit They're Push Up Liner (read here). It has been my go-to eyeliner ever since I've tried it. Unfortunately, it has gone really watery on me - as in liquid eyeliner watery. As a result, I do not have any control when using this liner. It's probably time for me to throw it out anyway, but I did send a message to Maybelline a month ago regarding the change in consistency and have had no response.

13. Urban Decay Lingerie & Golashes for lashes
I think I have used this once. I didn't think much of this basecoat/topcoat mascara thing. It's been sitting in my mascara drawer for ages and is definitely due for a meeting with the bin.

14. Starlooks Mascara
I didn't really use this mascara much, and it has been sitting in my mascara drawer for a few months untouched. When I used this recently, it was too goopy for my liking. As such, this is also going in the bin.

15. Jo Malone Nectarine Blossom & Honey Cologne
Although I absolutely love this cologne by Jo Malone, I'm not quite sure if I'm willing to fork out $90 for a 30ml bottle or $180 for 100ml. This brings a new meaning to the term "liquid gold".

16. Gatsby Powdered Oil Clear Paper
This is my favourite oil blotting papers ever. I prefer the powdered ones over the clear sheets (below). It removes all the excess oil without messing up my makeup. Furthermore, the powder it leaves behind helps slow down oil buildup/shiny-face-syndrome. Would repurchase till I die.

17. Gatsby Oil Clear Sheet
Although these sheets are great at removing oil without messing up your makeup too, I much prefer the powdered ones for reasons explained above.

18. Kate Somerville Exfolikate
Didn't think much of this exfoliator. This is meant to be left on for a few minutes so that the enzymes can do its thing. I found it uncomfortable for some reason that I can't quite explain. It did leave my skin feeling smooth. However, the negative uncomfortable feeling outweighs its benefits, which can be achieved with a good scrub (my favourite is the Clinique for Men face scrub). So I will not be purchasing the full size of this.

19. Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes
I remember liking this once upon a time when I first used it. Unfortunately, my opinion of this has taken a downturn. It just feels too rough on the skin and is not damp enough compared to other makeup removing wipes (e.g. Wotnot). The saving grace of the Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes is that it doesn't leave my skin feeling yucky after.

That's it for this month's empties. What have you finished this month?

  2. Woww so many product empties for the month *O*
It's a shame the Maybelline Lasting Drama Pen Gel Liner went watery!! That defeats the whole purpose of the gel liner >_< Hope you get a response back from Maybelline soon!!! I've had a similar experience with the Simple makeup wipes as well, they're not very good at removing my makeup and is definitely very harsh on the skin too :( Have you tried Johnson&Johnsons makeup wipes? They're pretty good :))

  3. What an impressive empties post! I love the Secret Wonderland fragrance from B&BW, I wish it was readily available in Australia and it was interesting to hear your thoughts on the Josie Maran Argan Oil. I have a sample of it there waiting to be tried out! I love the Orly Bonder basecoat too - it's my second favourite after OPI's Nail Envy! :)

  4. I didn't know the Neutrogena Hydro Boost was a moisturizer? From the name I thought it was kinda like that something lab product with a white and pink tube that claims to boost hydration.

  5. Still not sure how that I managed to do that!

  6. It's a moisturizer/serum. The blue tube is a sample I received in a beauty subscription box (I think).

  7. I doubt I'll hear back from Maybelline. It's been over a month.

I've tried the J&J wipes, and didn't like them much either. Still much prefer the Wotnot ones!

  8. Thanks Ash! I think I have a mini bottle of OPI Nail Envy. I should dig it up and use it, as I can't even remember if I ever used it/like it!

  10. I checked again you're right it is a moisturizer! It just dried/sunk in quite fast, that and the name was why I was confused. :)

  11. I guess the fast absorption is why it's not as moisturizing/hydrating as proper cream moisturisers. Although the benefits is that you don't have to wait too long before applying other skincare items on top (such as sunscreen).

  12. I've got the travel box thingy! I haven't used it yet though.

  13. I love Exfolikate! Shame you're not keen on the sensation. They did tell me at Sephora to only leave it on for 1.5, 2 minutes, tops.
