Christmas Advent Swap 2015

I did a swap with a lovely lady, Aliyah, from America. This swap isn't just any swap though. It's a Christmas advent swap, so I've been having loads of fun opening a present everyday this month. We created a wishlist on Pinterest and filled out a questionnaire that enabled us to purchase items that the other person would love. I'm extremely pleased and grateful for the presents Aliyah purchased for me.

As I am predicting a very busy day tomorrow, I thought I'd share what I've received for Days 1 to 24 and if I have time, I'll add what I got for Christmas Day as an edit tomorrow - I'm flying to LA on Boxing Day, it was a bit of a spur of the moment decision, so the blog will be quite quiet for about a week (not that I have been writing many posts lately).

Review: Fudge Make-A-Mends Shampoo & Conditioner

I've been incorporating the Fudge Make-A-Mends shampoo and conditioner into my haircare routine for the past 1.5 months. Make-A-Mends was made specifically for dry and coarse, chemically or heat treated hair - i.e. it was made for my hair!

November Favourites

I have another handful of favourites to share that I've discovered in November. I have been using these favourites almost everyday since purchasing, and I am in love!

The Parcel - Summer 2015

The Parcel Summer Edit is supposedly the highest value yet at over $140 in value. I am super impressed with how quickly they have sent this box out - I got a shipping notification from auspost (for bluestar connect) on Friday afternoon and received it the next day! I LOVE Saturday deliveries!

Empties: November 2015

The countdown is on! Less than a month till Christmas, and I really need to get started on Christmas shopping. Does anyone want to see a gift guide?

Getting back on track, I didn't really finish many products this month. I blame it on my holiday, as I took minis with me (didn't finish many of those - holiday was clearly too short).

Singapore Haul

I'm back from my holiday to Singapore, and I could not leave the country empty handed. I'm actually quite pleased with how much self-constraint I've managed to practice when it came to beauty purchases - it also helped that the Aussie dollar isn't doing too well, and quite a number of things ended up being more expensive in Singapore than Australia.

Bloggers United AU (Sydney) - Massive haul

This blog post is long overdue, considering the Bloggers United AU Sydney event was just over 3 weeks ago! I had heaps of fun meeting other event attendees and brand reps. In fact, I had so much fun networking, I forgot to take pictures of the event itself. #bloggerfail

We were given bags full of goodies that I thought I'd share in this blog post (warning: this post is picture heavy, and I'll be letting the pictures do the talking). My arms and shoulders definitely had a good workout walking to and from the event and train station. Had pretty sore muscles for the next few days!

Anyway, to stop this blog post from getting any longer, let's jump straight to it!

09 November 2015

Brand Focus: Colour Theory

Colour Theory is a brand that's new to me. It's a very affordable brand, where prices of products start from $4, and nothing costs more than $10.

I've been trialling some of these products over the past month or so, and am now finally ready to share my thoughts!

October Favourites

I've discovered quite a few new products in October that I've fallen in love with and have to share!
I haven't had a chance to do a proper review of any of these products, as they are still new to me, but I am absolutely loving them and have been using them almost everyday.

1. Les Merveilleuses de LadurĂ©e Face Color Rose LadurĂ©e
This blush just screams luxury. It is the most expensive blush I own, and I have no regrets spending AUD$120 on it. As it's not available in Australia (that I'm aware of), I got one of my friends who was visiting Japan to make this sneaky purchase for me. It's not only absolutely gorgeous with the (fake) petals, but the jar that houses the blush petals (sold separately) is so unique and pretty. This blush is also fairly pigmented, and the colour is gorgeous (swatch at the end of the post).

2. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Palette
I have yet to find a hourglass product I dislike. Although many people have criticised this palette due to its sized and hefty price tag in comparison, I don't share the same opinion. I think it's the perfect size for travelling, and since I have never finished a blush in my life, size is not an issue. The only thing I wish hourglass would do is make new blush shades and stop reusing old ones.

3. Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Naked
This lipstick shade is a my lips but better. It's pigmented and non-drying. This has been my go-to lipstick for the past couple of weeks.

4. Too Faced Born This Way foundation in Light Beige
May or may not have gone to Mecca and gotten two sample loads of foundation before biting the bullet and purchasing this foundation. Born This Way provides ample coverage for everyday wear (medium), and I barely have to use concealer to cover up any blemishes, as the foundation covers most of them. It lasts all day on my skin, and whilst it's not the best at oil control, it provides a natural, satin finish.

5. Williams Pro Makeup Zero Powder
I've been using this finishing powder ever since I got it from bloggers united Sydney event earlier in the month. I love that this is not a flat, translucent powder - it has a little bit of a glittery substance that gives the skin a little bit of something something. It also smells nice, and helps with oil control. I'm not usually strict on using vegan/cruelty free product, but this is one of them is you only use cruelty free products. It retails for AUD$35 and can be purchased directly from Williams Pro Makeup here.

What are your October favourites?

Empties: October 2015

Two more months of 2015 left! How time flies!

I haven't really finished much for October (in comparison to previous month's), with a couple of "cheat" products.

26 October 2015

Another US haul (Sephora, MAC & Too Faced)

So I did another rather large haul from the US again. I purchased from Sephora, Too Faced and MAC, and practiced massive self control, as the damage could have been a lot worse!

17 October 2015

Current Cleansers - Frank Creamy Face Cleanser & Boscia Charcoal Deep-Pore Cleansing Stick Treatment

I have had extraordinarily amazing skin lately, even during that time of the month. I think the cleansers I am currently using have played a massive role in the lack of blemishes over the past couple of months (although, the pill has probably also helped). So I thought I'd share the love by showcasing the two cleansers responsible for my clear skin.

08 October 2015

Brand Focus: Marc Anthony

As you may already know, I have been bleaching the crap out of my hair for nearly a year now. As a result, my hair is extremely damaged. My hair now requires moisturizing shampoos and conditioners, as well as purple shampoo and/or conditioner to keep my bleached blonde hair from going brassy. I have yet to find a good set of haircare products that is both moisturizing enough and can keep the brassiness at bay. Therefore, I like to mix things up on hair-wash days - I use two types of shampoos (purple and moisturizing, one after the other) and two types of conditioners (one for blondes and one specifically made for damaged hair - I use both together).

September Favourites

I'm not too sure if monthly favourites will be a thing here at Shrinking Wallet, but I've managed to discover some amazing products in September that I have to share!

28 September 2015

Empties: September 2015

Is it me or has 2015 just flown by? It's less than 3 months till Christmas, which I'm extremely excited about because I am going to do an advent swap with someone from USA (an advent swap is a swap whereby you include 25 gifts for each day in December till Christmas day, sort of like a chocolate advent calendar).

Review: Too Faced Love Flush Blush

These Love Flush blushes are the latest release by Too Faced. I confess that I was sold as soon as I saw packaging. I may or may not have been sitting in front of my computer yelling "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY" when I learnt about this release.

16 September 2015

Swatch & Review: OPI Venice Collection (mini 4-pack)

OPI is one of my favourite nail brands, and I absolutely love the collections (and names) that get released every so often. They have just released the Venice collection, which comprises of 12 shades. All of which will be part of the permanent collection.

The Parcel - Spring 2015/20th Anniversary Edition

This edition of The Parcel by Marie Claire is a special one to celebrate their 20th Anniversary. The box feels a lot heavier and is about twice the size (height wise) than normal. This posts obviously contains spoilers, so considered yourself warned if you're (im)patiently waiting for Mr Postman to deliver your box of goodies.

10 September 2015

Review: Max Factor Miracle Touch Foundation

Miracle Match Foundation is Max Factor's latest foundation that claims to blur imperfection whilst nourishing the skin, creating a natural, dewy complexion.

06 September 2015

Review: NARS Aqua Gel Luminous Oil-Free Moisturizer

This has got to be one of the most expensive moisturizer I have ever purchased. I bought this from mecca for $76 a few months ago, however it has since jumped to a whopping $86. I guess the million dollar question is "Is this moisturizer worth it?"

01 September 2015

Empties: August 2015

Spring has sprung, and we're 3 quarters into 2015 already! It seems time has passed me by... again!

I've managed to accumulate quite a number of empties for the month of August, most of which are haircare and skincare products, but I'm rather pleased with myself nonetheless. I NEED to finish more makeup products and stop hauling.

28 August 2015

Review: Marc Jacobs Daisy Dream Forever EDP

I absolutely adore Marc Jacob perfumes, from their gorgeous bottles to their nasal pleasing scents. So I had extremely high hopes for Marc Jacobs latest release - Daisy Dream Forever. I'm so pleased that my expectations were met, and my nasal sensory neurons were in heaven.

August Favourites

It's been a while since I've shared my current favourite makeup items. The handful of products I'm sharing today are ones that I absolutely adore and keep reaching for.

21 August 2015

Review: SocialEyes Lashes - Butterfly

SocialEyes lashes is a brand founded by youtuber, Karissa Pukas. I actually purchased a few lashes when she launched her lashes, however, found them too long for my eyes - they actually reached my eyebrows. I was quite excited to learn that she released 6 "natural" lashes, and was hoping that they will suit my smaller eyes better. I decided to pick up 3 of the 6 lashes (Butterfly, Playing Coy & Glamorous Shorty), as well as her tweezers and lash glue during her 30% off sale.

Worth The Hype? - Ellis Faas Skin Veil Foundation

The Ellis Faas Skin Veil Foundation has been raved about by a number of vloggers, and has received glowing reviews on makeupalley. So naturally, it made my wishlist, as I cannot afford (nor can bare to part with) $110 for 30ml worth of foundation. I was spoilt this year by my parents, as they got me a bottle of Skin Veil foundation for my birthday after checking out my wishlist.

13 August 2015

Review: Becca Flowerdance Holiday Set

I absolutely love getting sets, as they're more often than not great value for money. It's also a fantastic way of trialling new products without splurging on individual full sized products.

There are quite a number of Becca products that I've heard many amazing things about that I have yet to try. One of which is the beach tint, which is included in the Flowerdance Holiday Set! Yay!

Birthday Swap with Roxy

I did a birthday swap with a girl, Roxy, from the UK. It all started with a Facebook post from Roxy in a swap group that we were both in. As her birthday is exactly a week before mine, I thought it was a good sign and jumped at the chance to do a swap with someone from the UK. The budget we set was AUD$150/£75 excluding shipping. We each had our own wishlist that we shared with each other, as well as a questionnaire that one of the admin/member of the Facebook group set up.

06 August 2015

Empties: July 2015

Oops. This post is about a week late, but my life has been a bit on the hectic side. My birthday was on Saturday (and am working on a birthday swap post), and my husband's birthday was yesterday. Poor bugger has been sick and coughing at night, which wakes me up. So I'm a little sleep deprived at the moment. And then there's the whole anxiously waiting for council to approve our housing plans so we can start building our forever house. I have also been trying to be more active on instagram (follow me here), and planning posts takes time away from my blog. There is definitely not enough hours in a day!

Review: Hair&Me Hair Rejuvenation Treatment

Hair&Me Hair Rejuvenation Treatment is an organic, vegan friendly hair treatment that claims to repair, moisturise and strengthen your hair and scalp. Hair&Me also claims to cut blow-drying time by 30-50%, as the hair treatment is an oil based product that pushes out trapped water from the cuticle.

Review: L'Oreal Infallible Mattifying Base & 24H-Matte Foundation

I have really been loving new drugstore releases lately. I had the opportunity to trial L'Oreal's new Infallible 24H-Matte foundation and base, and I keep finding myself reaching for these two amazing products long after the trial period has been and gone.

17 July 2015

Review: Rimmel Oh My Gloss

I'm going to throw it out there - Rimmel Oh My Gloss! may be one of the best drugstore lip glosses on the market. Containing Argan Oil and Vitamin E, these lip glosses not only look pretty on your lips but they are also moisturizing, perfect for the cold winter weather.

14 July 2015

Haul: Sephora & Norstrom

This is the reason why I'm broke, and why I'm trying to sell off makeup I rarely use. Excuses used so far -
1. Oops! My hand slipped... numerous times.
2. But it's so "cheap".
3. I really "needed" all this makeup, skincare and haircare products.
4. But it was on special AND there's a gift with purchase!
6. Go big or go home.
7. I had to make the most of combine shipping.

Empties: June 2015

Oops, I'm a week late with this empties post. Better late than never, right?

I feel like I didn't finish as many products as I normally do. I couldn't decide on a mascara to throw out, and as such my empties post is severely lacking in makeup. It's not like I can't afford to throw out some makeup, it's more like I don't have the heart to. Speaking of makeup (and definitely going off on a tangent), I am looking at detashing some makeup and skincare products (primarily self tanners), so stay tuned for an updated blog sale.

Haul: Charlotte Tilbury

I thought I'd share my experience purchasing from Charlotte Tilbury. When I learnt that Charlotte Tilbury (CT) will be shipping to Australia and having a dedicated "Australian" website, I was over the moon. I was trying to mentally prepare myself for exorbitant prices (over the top of CT's already high prices), which seems to be the norm for us Aussies. When the Australian website launched about 2 weeks ago, I was pleased to see that the prices aren't all that different from the British one. It was extremely comparable, and it definitely made me feel easier about doing a sneaky purchase.

My Dry Skin Saviours (Part II) - LUSH Massage Bars

L-R: Tender is the Night; Yes Yes Yes

In the second instalment of "My Dry Skin Saviours", I am sharing my current favourite body moisturizer. I'm going to be honest here and admit that I can be quite lazy when it comes to moisturizing my skin. As a result, I am faced with dry, itchy skin, especially since I have to shower in fairly hot water in winter (which dries out my skin even more than normal).

26 June 2015

My Dry Skin Saviours (Part I) - Kate Somerville Goat Milk Cream & Origins Make A Difference Plus + Treatment

With the onset of such cold weather combined with the use of my Retin-A cream, my skin has been so dehydrated and dry. If you're fairly new to my blog, I normally have oily skin. I still do. So you may be thinking "How can you have oily and dehydrated/dry skin at the same time?" Well, my skin is quite dry and flaky in the mornings, making foundation application an absolute nightmare. By the afternoon, my skin is an oily mess. This tells me that my skin is dehydrated and to combat this dryness, the oil glands go into hyperdrive and produce a heap of oil to try balance out moisture levels, which explains why my face resembles McDonald's deep fryer in the afternoon.

14 June 2015

Brand Focus: MUD

There's no easy way for me to say this... I'm a brand snob. I tend to spend money on more expensive brands (high street to luxury) because I think they are better quality than drugstore/cheaper brands. But today, I'm going to eat my words. MUD (Make-Up Design) is a drugstore brand that is perfect for those on a budget. I was extremely surprised at the quality of some of these MUD products I've been putting to test over the past few weeks.

06 June 2015

Empties: May 2015

I can't believe we're near the half way mark of 2015 already! I've been quite pleased with myself for finishing another foundation. I feel like celebrating by purchasing another (not that I need one) :P

31 May 2015

Review: Yves Saint Laurent Volupte Tint-In-Oil

Yves Saint Laurent Volupte Tint-in-Oil is such an interesting product. I certainly do not have anything similar in my makeup collection. As the name suggests, it's a deep conditioning lip oil infused with a tint. The two shades that I own and will be reviewing are I Rose You 4 and Pink About Me 8.

21 May 2015

Haul: Sephora

Oops I did it again, and I'm not even sorry! I did some serious damage during Sephora's 15% off sale last month. I didn't use HopShopGo as my parcel forwarder this time around, as they refused to ship a few of the things I wanted to order as they are supposedly "flammable" (items were Cover FX Custom Cover Drops and YSL Volupte Tint-in-Oil, in case you were wondering). Thankfully, I have a mate in Canada who was happy to forward my parcel on to me. I was quite surprised at the exchange rate and prices for Canadian buyers, as some items worked out to be slightly cheaper (before tax)! Keep reading after the jump for more details about what I have purchased.

Review: Kate Somerville EradiKate Mask

I have never tried a foaming mask. In fact, I didn't think they existed until I found this Kate Somerville EradiKate Mask. It literally goes from a gel/cream consistency into foam. I know right... Magical!

04 May 2015

Empties: April 2015

Another month has gone, and I've got another lot of empties to share. I've got a good mix of skincare, bodycare and haircare products this time around, with only one lone makeup product.

30 April 2015

Brand Focus: LUMA

I have been trialling some of these LUMA products over the past few months, and I am finally ready to share my thoughts.

LUMA Cosmetics was founded by model, Jessica Hart. All LUMA products are created with only naturally derived ingredients, and are free from mineral oils, sulphates and parabens.

Review: Sugar Queen Body Scrubs - Lemon Cheesecake

I have been obsessed with body scrubs lately, and was offered a chance to trial this amazing scrub by Sugar Queen Body Scrubs. The scent was a surprise in more ways than one. I didn't think I'd like the smell of a Lemon Cheesecake scrub, as I'm not the biggest fan of citrusy smells but I actually grew to love this.
