Brand Focus: MUD

There's no easy way for me to say this... I'm a brand snob. I tend to spend money on more expensive brands (high street to luxury) because I think they are better quality than drugstore/cheaper brands. But today, I'm going to eat my words. MUD (Make-Up Design) is a drugstore brand that is perfect for those on a budget. I was extremely surprised at the quality of some of these MUD products I've been putting to test over the past few weeks.

MUD Gel Eyeliner in Black
Starting with my favourite product out of the four I've been testing out, the MUD gel eyeliner in black. I love that this eyeliner comes with a brush that you can pull out, turn upside down and push into the other bit of the cap (with the MUD logo) to turn it into a brush with a longer handle. It's absolutely genius and perfect for travelling. The formula of this gel eyeliner is to die for. It has quickly become one of my favourite eyeliners, and rivals my beloved Maybelline Lasting Drama Pen Gel eye liner, which in case you didn't know, my HG eyeliner. The MUD gel eyeliner is extremely pigmented (see swatch below) and is smudgeproof and waterproof once it's fully dry, which takes a couple of minutes. I am so, so impressed with this eyeliner and would recommend it to everyone!

MUD Cheek & Lip Tint in Pink
I'm going to be honest here... I did not use this cheek and lip tint as much as I should before writing this review. I have only used this a couple of times only because I am not the biggest fan of using cream blushes and/or using products such as this on my lips. The couple of times that I've used this on my cheeks, it gave my cheeks a nice hint of colour - i.e. a natural flush. On the lips, the colour barely shows, I guess that's why they call it a "lip TINT". It also isn't moisturizing enough for winter, which is also another reason why I have found it extremely hard to reach for this product instead of another more hydrating lip product.

MUD Matte Lip Cream in Mauve
Another confession... This is another product that hasn't been thoroughly tested because I'm a complete wuss and this shade is far too bold for my comfort. However, these are my thoughts anyway - it feels extremely comfortable on my lips despite it being a matte lip cream. It applies evenly and does not accentuate any dry patches. This matte lip cream does not feel hydrating nor does it feel drying. Pigmentation is amazing (which is why I cannot bring myself to wear this out). It's such a shame I can't overcome my insecurities, as this shade makes my teeth look whiter!

 MUD Colour Balm
I'm not sure what shade this is and why the picture above is leaning orange (the colour balm is more of a salmon pink). Unfortunately this colour balm falls short for me. It clings to dry skin on the lips, which is an immediate turn off for me especially in winter. It is not very pigmented, and provides a tint to the lips. It is a bit on the tacky side, but it's definitely not the stickiest lip product I've tried. Furthermore, it's not "weightless" on the lips - I like my lip products to feel like second skin. I hate the feeling of things on my lips, and unfortunately I can definitely feel this on, which is such a shame because I like this shade and don't mind the sheerness of this colour balm.

L-R: Cheek & Lip Tint in Pink; Matte Lip Cream in Mauve; Colour Balm; Gel Eyeliner in Black
There is one clear hero here - the MUD gel eyeliner in Black. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who's looking for a pigmented, long lasting eyeliner. If I'm not wrong, MUD is available at Woolworths. I will be keeping an eye out for more wearable shades of the Matte Lip Cream because the formula is on point and I think they retail for about $5!

Have you tried any MUD products?
